Almost any amp will run at 8 ohms.  You didn't mention what you have, but issues arise from running a lower than nominal impedence (less than 4 ohms) rather than higher.  A higher impedence will help the amp stay cool, and aid in keeping THD (distortion) down.  The downside would be less power produced.

My ex once told me I have a perfect face for radio.

Answer:  A two channel amplifier, that when bridged, will output 500 watts into a 4 ohm bridged load (for example, this  Kicker SX 500.2 which could later be used to power a set of 4 ohm components at 2 X 125 watts).

With your 8 ohm woofer you would get 250 watts.  In the future when you are due for a system upgrade, you can use this amp to power a set of components and buy a mono amp and higher output DVC 4 ohm sub.  Then you would be able to parallel-wire the sub to 2 ohms for use with the mono amp.

Build the box so that it performs well in the worst case scenario and, in return, it will reward you at all times.
