That's the ac/dc converter. Try some double stick tape or velcro, make sure it is secure behind the dash and away from other electroinc components.

Nice deck.

What he MEANT was DC to AC power supply, and it is for the display power. It is a high frequency switcher, and is a NOISY bastard, electrically speaking. Keep it away from your antenna leads, and especially your RCA cables.
It all reminds me of something that Molière once said to Guy de Maupassant at a café in Vienna: "That's nice. You should write it down."

I have had a couple of eclipse decks and they all have that nifty little device. I too was quite curious what it was. All I knew is that the sticker said to keep it far away from all other wires and what not so you dont create speaker noise. That is why it has such a long cord.

thats a great deal! I just bought my 8445 (the model just below yours) for $500. But that was from an authorized dealer with a 4 year warantee. I strongly suggest you buy the MEI100 tuning microphone from cardomain. Basically there is a built in RTA funtion in the deck that will help you tune your system. its not the cure all but it helps a lot. I have mine in the mail. Its supposed to be showing up tomorrow. Ill let you know how good it does.
