Hello,
I would like to ask for some advice, I am currently looking at replacing my stock system.
The system I am looking to install is as follows.
Head unit Alpine Cda-9853 ( or 9857 still deciding)
Front Alpine SPR-17ls Splits
Rear Alpine SPR-69lp 2 ways
Amp Alpine ?????? not sure yet.
Any opinions on the system?
My main question is due to lack of space behind the rear seat of a twin cab Ute, I have to make a box to fit out the speakers and amp and can not fit a sub, the basic dimensions I have to work with are L 800mm (31") H 180mm(15") depth base 180mm(7")
depth top 40mm(1.5").
Now being a total novice at box building I had planed on building a complete full length box to those dimensions and just sinking the amp into the centre of the box, Am I better off building two sealed speaker boxes and just mounting them to a back board the full length creating two sealed boxes or is one full length box with no divide between the speakers making a much larger cavity space going to be ok
My main objective for this is due to no sub space I am wanting to get some nice bass from my rear speakers, not looking for Doof Doof, However I do want to get good sound (for those songs that come on that you know you just have to crank it up.)
Thanks in advance
Daniel

Daniel, stop the bus and get off. I think you are on the wrong one. Read the stickies at the top of this forum as there is a huge amount of advice there. I see Alpine is a favorite for you, any particular reason why?

Hello Rob,
LOL Can you tell me which bus to get on?
I have been through most of the stickys and I am either not reading them right or just don't seem to be getting the answers I'm looking for ( it may be just how I'm asking them I guess).
Basicly I want to know if I build an enclosure to hold my rear speakers and amp am I better to build with one open cavity the full length of the box or seperate each speaker in there own enclosure?
As to Alpine my Fav I guess it's a case of stick with what you know. Yes I like the gear and I like a matched set up,
However open to options
Thanks daniel

Alpine is ok, but there are better things out there.  Kinda like sodas, off brand is ok, but there are better quality sodas out there.  Anyways as for the box you want to know is basically something like this. . .

Is it better to make a lets say just for an example of how you want your box, not saying to use these dimensions, but a 48"x19"x18" OR is it better to build TWO seperate boxes 24"x19"x18"

Neither would be the answer to that question if that is the question.

Build the single box, but in the middle on the inside put a piece of wood to divide the box into two seperate chambers as it would be two seperate boxes put together.

Separated enclosures is a better bet.
If one sub fails the internal volume doesnt not double and make the sub suck and potentially fail.

Hey thanks for the reply guys,
That basically answers my question. Now remembering that I'm looking to use 6x9 and not subs do I need to have a certain sized enclosure for each speaker?
What I am trying to achieve is a good combination of full range tones with some solid Bass
Am I going about this the wrong way?????
Cheers Daniel

my 2 cents.    Ditch the 6x9s and go for a single 8 or 10 inch sub.    use a solid alipne 4 channel amp if you want to use all alpine, and bridge 2 of the channels to run a single sub.
I think this might be the answer rob was poking at before.
I think he meant to browse through the advance front stage topic....
I good front stage will support all the highs you may desire and then you can add a sub to get the low end you would like to have as well
The Alpine type E (if they are still around) were quite shallow, required very very little airspace and power, and sounded as any alpine should. Great!

Jeff is correct.  The other two responses given above obviously didn't notice that you said that you were not using subs.
Build the box so that it performs well in the worst case scenario and, in return, it will reward you at all times.

That's the thing about being in Western Canada, everyone answers the next morning when you are still looking at the ceiling saying "why do I have to get up today". That is where I was going as well. I would do the exact same scenario and choose a shallow mount sub for your ute. Pioneer makes some good shallow mount 10" and 12" subs that take a super duper small sealed enclosure that will fit your ute. If you want my opinion on a cd player, it will be Eclipse, after that you can do what you like but the choice of a headunit like the one I am mentioning will make a huge difference to your system. Look at the CD2000, CD3000 or CD4000 as there is no difference in them for tonal response, bells and whistles only. www.eclipse-web.com.au
