II've decided that it's time to add alittle "THUMP" to the trunk. With so many different companies out there I was hoping to get some advice on maybe what to look for. I listen to rock, some heavy metal and the occasional hip hop so I'd like something that will hit fairly hard on the beats. I don't want to spend outrageous amounts of money either, so if anybody has some ideas post em up .

Thanks in advance

Everyones going to recomment what they have. SInce you are on a budget I would check out a Eclipse, Infinity, Rockford (maybe) I dont know, Your best bet is to stop by a local shop and listen to alot of setups and see what suits your needs most.

Well how much exactly are you trying to spend...From what you have told us one 12 should do it. Doesn't have to be the best 12 but the enclosure will make or break it.

I'd like to spend around 200 for the sub, the enclosure is another issue as I'm still debating which kind I want, ported or sealed,I've been told to stay away from bandpass.  I like it loud with that blow your chest out vibration

You have to decide on the sub and enclosure at the same time of purchase, you can't make the decision later because some subs are designed better in ported and some subs are designed better in sealed. Your dealer will definately know what is what...i hope.

Actually you can just use WinISD and design your enclosure to your liking.

Why rule out bandpass? Done correctly, this type of box can not only solve certain installation problems, but sound incredible. I've loaded x8 12's in a banpass and ported in the back of a pickup. Serious output and perfectly flat from 28hz - 65hz. Certainly more complex than sealed or ported.

He said he listens to rock and metal...I'd say sealed or ported tuned correctly.

So if I listen to Celtic and Jazz I should only use a bandpass box and not tune accordingly? There are more than just sealed or ported folks. Biohazard or Slipknot won't sound good out of a bandpass box? It shouldn't be ruled out do to music style.
