I just got an '03 Jetta and the Monsoon radio is stuck on FM 88.3 (so I can't even hear how crappy the Monsoon sounds as everyone says).
- I hear a little woomph from the speakers when I initially turn it on.
- I can't search/seek or hit the pre-sets or switch to AM.
- If I dial up the volume the digital scale shows the increase, but of course no sound.
- If I put a CD in the display shows it's tracking, but no sound (and can't search either).
I checked the fuse in the panel #42 (I guess it's the right one - danmed VW symbols!), it's good, but I guess I wouldn't have any display if the fuse was bad. I disconnected the positive battery cable for a couple minutes, still no luck.
- It's not a code issue (at least it's not displaying "SAFE" - therefore I couldn't code it if I wanted to!).
- I pulled the fuse from the back of the headunit too.
Any ideas?

Radio is dead. Is it worth repairing? That's up to you, but my guess'd be not likely.
Any afternarket stereo should be acceptable in there, you might need an adapter, but as for the OEM stereo? It's a goner.
It all reminds me of something that Molière once said to Guy de Maupassant at a café in Vienna: "That's nice. You should write it down."

Really?  Danm!  I was hoping it just needed to be coded or something!  Crap!  A "new" car and no stereo!
