The surround on my 12 w6's is starting to dry out and crack. Havent been in the car running for about 1 year. Is it worth having the surround re-done or would it cost more than they are worth? Have never tried to have this done before. Anybody know who does it? Am I wasting my time? Subs still sound good!

I have an old school JL 12w6 and one of them is blown is I just set it outside my garage..its been through rain, sleet, hail, and snow.
The surround is still flexible and stuff...pretty tough

I replace surrounds all the time.  But you need the right sixe for the JL, it's not standard size.  For it to dry out in a year is surprizing.  Is exposed to direct sunlight?  Was it exposed to asetone in paint   shop?

Any chance that your running a ported box with lots of power and over driving the sub?

I havent run it for a year. I've had it since 2000. It was in a sealed camaro stealth box for a 92 model Camaro. I'm shure it was exposed to some intense heat and sun. I fI don't run it hard it's fine; when I push it though, it pushes air out the hole in the surround.

i had the same problems with my new 10" W6v2's when i ran them, execpt mine started cracking and wearing out in like 7 months. I even had then under powered for the pair by like 100 watts. I think it's just a new design flaw in them.

But mine arent a new design. They are old.

I have a blown 13w6 that i've been debating getting repaired.
You'd have to call JL and get them to refer you to a dealer... then they'd send it in for you.
For my 13w6 I was quoted $285. All JL repairs are flat-rates. Expect to pay about 40% of original MSRP for the repair.
