I have a 87 supra in which I decided to build my own component set. Now considering this is just an experiment at the moment please don't criticize me for buying a cheap speakers. I don't want to blow to bits speakers worth hundreds of dollars.

Now for what I have to play around with.

I have two tweeters from a Alpine SPR set.

I want to build the crossovers for these units. I was looking at the crossover pages on this website and I perfectly understand how they work and what they need. What I don't understand is how do I pick the crossover frequency. Can someone point me in the right direction or recommend some reading? I am sure it is much more complex than typing in the capacitor and coil calculator the speaker response frequency...

First, if you read the forum rules you will notice that Ebay links do not work here.

As far as choosing Xover frequency, in a 2-way set (woofer and tweeter) you need to know the fs of the tweeter and build your system so the signal is at least -18db at fs (this is just a ballpark figure I like, not based on specific manufacturer's recommendations.) You will also need to know the sensitivity of the speakers being used and match them, generally by padding the tweeter. In a more sophisticated xover you may also use filter envelopes to correct peaks and resonances in the speakers and better match their frequency responses, and some woofers benefit from a zobel circuit to correct impedance rise if you're operating it near its limits.

As far as recommended reading, there are lots of good texts available on crossover design, and even a few good web sites. Try Google.
