hi guys, i am installing a compustar 2 way alarm/starter on a 96 Jetta. I was wondering what type of relays i should use. I need to change the polarity output from the alarm/starter and also i need to add a starter kill relay.

Thank you.

Hi guys, i was wondering if im able to cut off the relay for connecter 1 pin 3 and 7. Or does it need to be used? Im not sure what the outputs of each wire are for the relay. If anyone knows where i can find the info for the relay wiring it'll be appreciated.

I wanted to use a different tpye of wiring in the relay to convert some polarities and hook up the starter kill.

Thanks

you can but you need them, 1 is for the start kill/anti grind, the other will do 2nd start, 2nd ignition, 2nd acc depending what you hook up to it. Just go out and buy some relays.
Compustar.com, go to dealer support and you can see the install manuals.

I would, its already prewired for you. I believe out of the box its just anti grind you have to set it to option 2 for it to do both.

pin 3 is just 12volts to the relay, it wont do anything until you connect to 2nd starter/2ng acc or 2nd acc....

you will use any automotive relay. usually people buy bosch but any standard automotive relay will do. it will be 12v 30/40 amp relay. when converting polarity, you can use a SPST, but starter kill requires SPDT. using SPDT in place with a SPST is the same.

Im kinda new at relays,

so should i just get SPDT relays? If i just purchase all SPDT relays would it work for changing polarity?

Thank you.

Yes. The only difference between the 2 is that a SPDT has 5 pins, a SPST has 4. If the application you need does not require pin 87a (center pin) to be used (like when converty polarity), you can just use a SPST relay. If you are using a relay for starter kill, then youll need a SPDT relay since all 5 pins will be needed. I personal only use a SPDT relay when I need it. There is no reason to use it if you dont need pin 87a. Plus SPDT are more expensive than SPST. Get some of both that way you have them handy when you need them.

ok guys i had another question, my 96 jetta has (+) door lock/unlock trigger also same as arm/disarm, and the compustar has both (+, and -) lock/unlock trigger. But the compustars arm/disarm are both (-) 250mA triggers. Should i be using a diode for the arm/disarm wire? Or can i just hook up the lock with the arm, and unlock with the disarm wires together using a relay?

thank you.
