I am trying to use the bitwriter to program the alarm, when i hit write, it says "a transmitter must be programmed into the unit before writing".
I tried to reprogram the remote, open the door, turn key to on, when i hit the program button then hold it, nothing happens, no chirps, no light, no matter how many times i try to press the button and hold it. I even tried to program the alarm by key on then off, pressing and holding the button, no lights, nothing. The remote no longer is working, the alarm is brand new. If it matters, the valet switch is turned to on.

What do you mean the valet switch is turned to on??????The valet switch is actually a button not a typical on/off switch.

To program you have to look for a a black button thats connect to the alarm.  Its gray and black wire connected to it.  Turn the ignition on then press the valet button twice. On the second push you need to hold the button.  You will hear a chirp.  Now, while holding the button you need to press the lock button on the remote and it will program.  Turn the igntion off and let go of the valet button and test the remote.

Make sure you have the door open(green wire or purple wire on the alarm triggered) and the yellow wire on the alarm ribbon that connects to the relay triggered by the ignition.  BTW also make sure the alarm has power and ground.  it can't be explained any more easier then this.

I meant to say the neutral safety switch was turned on, I read in another post this could make a differnce.
I triple checked power, ground, made sure the green wire showed negative when the door was open.
I went as far as zapping the alarm, which i probably shouldn't of done, and the alarm triggered for about 3 seconds, after that, nothing.

I tried this and no chirp, and the led won't light up. I even tried replacing the valet/program button and the led, stil no luck.

Just a thought but if you're using it for the first few times it can be a right pain. In the UK with our Cat 1 alrms with passive immobilisation we have to leave the ignition on, also the instructions are very vague.

I was not aware you had to have the ignition on to use the bitwriter, I will try it out in the morning. if not, I am going to have to go through wire by wire to see if it's something else, but nothing has changed.
Thanks for the replies and ideas.

We have to have it switched on over here because after 1 minute the UK spec  Cat  1 alarm goes passively into immobilisation mode and it screws up the bitwriter. If the ignition stays on that won't happen though it might be worth while you trying that. N.B The valet switch is only a momentary switch.Don't confuse it with the neutral safety override.

The ignition does not have to be on to program the 5900.  If your LED does not light up, or the siren chirp, then you need to recheck all connections with a DMM.  Check your fuses as well.

Please explain what you mean by "the valet switch is turned on."  The valet switch for these models are a momentary switch and cannot be left "on".  The neutral safety switch IS  a toggle switch that can be left on, but this has nothing to do with programming.

That is what I meant, the valet switch is turned on, I thought I read somewhere that having it off could affect programming, thanks for clearing it up. I am in the process right now of rechecking everything. Instead of grabbing 12 volt from the ignition, I ran a 8 gauge wire from the battery to a distribution block, and will run the alarm off of that.
