Trying to add remote start to 2005 diesel passat.Alarm is a Clifford 881.Does anyone know the wires for the wait to start light and also for the tach as diesels don't have coils to hook to?

Does the alarm not have a Diesel Mode? This provides a programmable delay for a diesel vehicle. Does the car have a dash mounted Tachometer? I can find NO INFO on the diesel model. If it has a tach, there will be a suitable wire there. Set your meter to AC Volts, ground one lead and probe the wires that could go to the tach, it will have a reading that will increase with the increase of RPMs of the engine.

As far as I can see the Clifford 881xp does not have a diesel timer mode,it supplies a wait to start wire for diesel use.The wires from the tach are very well bundled,I'm sure with time I could find the wire by trial and error but it would be more practical if I knew which wire to tap into and the best place to find it.

use a DEI 528T for the wait to start and program your unit for voltage sense.

You should be able to set a Clifford alarm to diesel and then adjust the delay time, don't need glow plug, also use a DEI inductive tach generator to give you tach, it's far safer.

I managed to get my viper 791 into arm only mode while trying to program. It will not unlock now using either lock or unlock button. How do I reset back to default or get out of this mode, everytime I open the door and turn the ignition on to try and enter program mode my siren is going off as the alarm is constantly on with no way to disarm it?

I'm installing a viper 791 into a 2005 passat.I used the DEI wiring charts and have found the required wires. The DEI chart lists all the triggers as negative -  . When I test the wires with my meter I get 0 volts with the doors closed and 12 volts with the doors open. Reading the alarm basics section if I get 12 volts with the door open it is a positive trigger. Why does the DEI chart list these as negative triggers. What wire do I connect to at the alarm, the negative or positive trigger wire.

What you get with your DMM is correct, since when the doors are closed those contact wires are sitting on 12volts from the dome lamp(s), their grounding path throught the door contacts is open circuited. As soon as you open a door the circuit is completed. Thus neg. door contacts. N.B. If yoyur dome light goes out immediately you use the factory remote locking the vehicle, go to the lead on the dome light, AKA dome light supervision for your door contact it's all you need. You will need to diode block hood and trunk inputs because of the sleeper circuits.
