Greetings all,

Well I thought I'd be daring and try installing a Bulldog Deluxe 500 remote starter in our 2000 Jag XJ8. Unit was previously in our 96 Mustang worked great btw all I want to do is use the remote start function on this car

The car even though its a 2000 does not have a transponder key system and there are only 5 wires going to the ign. switch ( 1 wire for each ign switch position , 1 for keysence that turns on the inside lights, and a ground) so it seemes fairly straight forward but I cannot get it to crank over. I've wired 3 relays to convert the 3 ign, wires from + to - outputs but when you press the starter remote buttons all the relays power up when they should , heater fans come on , then go off and finally back on like its going thru the motions but no go, no cranking

but a note- remote starter works if key is in put in and turned to ign (position II), but car will start fine even when keysense wire is disconnected so what am I missing??

any help would be the greatest

ok so it looks like your car does need a 556U I have never seen a jag without one anyways I believe your problem is in the ignition wire you need to cut and add a diode and a relay take a look at this document https://www.the12volt.com/installbay/downloads.asp also you MUST have key scene blue/red(-)

Try remote starting with the key in the ignition or held in front of it, but NOT turned on.

If it works, it's a transponder key and you'll need a bypass.

If it doesn't work, you might still need a bypass but you've also missed/incorrectly connected an ignition wire.

In my tinkering around I did try using the starter unit to trigger a relay grounding the keysence (blue/red) before actuation of starting process so that the car thought key was in the column, and I'm 99.99% sure its a non transponder key, its exactly the type of key for my old XJS and its just a skeleton looking deal with no chip, no programming to use so its either got to be some kind of a voltage drop signal as your explaining that the BMP is detecting "or" I'm thinking its the order in which the remote starter is attempting to start the car. Its trying Ign, acc, then acc off then starter with ign on, and the Jag wiring dia shows it first goes acc, ign "then" acc off then ign & start, could it be that simple ??

One phrase, probably relevant to fact that it starts with key in ignition....FACTORY ALARM.

Yeah I gotta figure out how to get around it by probibly connecting the 791 bypass, but whats got me is I was able to start the car w/o the keysense wire connected at all and the Jag wiring diagrams show no type ignition switch antenna wiring to pick up the key so how did it know it was ok to let it start?? its really got me stumped, My Mustang was easy compared to this and it did have a transponder key system.

The keysense wire never has anything to do with the transponder immobilizer. The car is looking for a specific radio frequency from the key, not its mere presence in the key cylinder.

but if the key is "just a key" like with this kind having no chip then whats calling the shots??

I've kept reading on this MY and the factory security was believe it optional, it does have remote keyless entry fobs but our ign keys are just that , no chip, no programming to get duplicates made

Iv'e posted a pic of the key for the ign and the door fob, as shown its like the same type key we use in our 80's Jags theres no chip in it , I've actually had old NOS keys made for the 2000 and theyv work fine, so If the car is picking up signal what would I look for , man I'm fustrated It should be in no sweat, and its gonna be -15 out yikes!
