I have a 2009 Nissan Maxima and want to get the Viper 5901 installed.  I know I will need some sort of bypass module because of the intellikey.  After doing some research, I have narrowed it down to the Fortin (CAN-SL2) & IDATA module (can't remember which one).  I want to know what the difference between the 2 modules are?  I want to be able to remote start the car in the morning, disarm the car, get in the car, then step on the brake and drive off.  Some people say you have to restart the car because once you step on the brake, the car will turn off.  Is there no way around this.  Will i lose a key with any of these modules?  Thanks in advance!

The only module that forces you to restart the car is the XK07 from Trilogix. And they won't even acknowledge the problem. Avoid the XK07.
The idatalink piece performs takeover for you. Just enter the car, step on the brake, and watch as the ignition magically moves to the "on" position, then drive away.
With the CAN-SL2, you get in the car, and push the dashboard button twice.....once for ACC position, once more for ON, then step on the brake and drive away.
Because of problems (which have now been resolved) with the early idatalink pieces, I have a lot more experience with the CAN-SL2.
I know the CAN-SL2 very well, and it works just fine.
The idatalink piece adds the automated takeover, and it provides an extra output (for the car's negative ignition wire) that the CAN-SL2 doesn't (the installer would usually wire that up with a relay).
You might see several idatalink pieces available for your car. In short: They're all the same to install. The Multi Series can be re-used on other kinds of cars in the future, but costs more. The Solo Series would be limited mostly to be re-used in other Nissans, but costs less. Make your decision based on whether you'll be transferring the product to another car in the future.
Also, on both sites, don't forget to read the installation diagrams.

Which specific IDATA module should I purchase if I only plan on installing it in the Maxima.  Is it the ADS-DLSL-CA2?  The only module they have availiable for the 2009 Nissan's are for the Murano.  WIll they work the same?   Thank you!

I believe that is correct.

Supposedly, there will be a custom cable(modified D2D) available to the U.S. in February, from iDataLink. When the iDataLink module is flashed for DBI mode, it will allow DEI products and iDataLink products to communicate over the 2-way interface digital, negating the need for W2W. However, I'm not sure if TACH is supported over D2D, on the Viper 5901.

Ideal - cmon dude, add to topics in a useful manner, not stuff that is obvious.
Story - Phzzzt! Hey, what happened?! ... Isn't it obvious?
Moral - Never dismiss the obvious.

Ah ok. The Maxima is so new, they may not have it listed on their website yet.
All the push-to-start Nissans are the same, installation-wise. Altima, Murano, FX, G, EX, Maxima. It's only the wiring colors that are different.
You can buy a product for any of the above-mentioned cars, and use it on your Maxima.
Just follow the install guide for, say, an Altima, but you have to go by pin location at the BCM, NOT wiring colors..........the pinouts are the same, just not the colors.
Wire colors for hte Maxima are here, if this helps:

I purchased the IDATALINK module for my 2009 Nissan Maxima with the Intellikey.  I read somewhere on the IDATALINK website about flashing the module.  Do I need to purchase the cable to flash it to the correct software, or do the modules come preflashed?  I want to take it to the shop and have it installed tomorrow, but just wanted to make sure before I go.  Thanks!

Indeed, they need to be flashed for the correct software to work. Where did you buy it from? Did they already do this for you?

I bought it directly from IDATALINK.  So I need to buy the cable and flash it myself.  What kind of cable is it?
