pats, 2000 f-150

I recently lost my set of keys to my 2000 F-150. After two days of sitting in my parking garage, I take it to the dealer. I sit there for about 2 hrs then they come and tell me that "It didn't work" and that something was wrong with my truck and they need to run a test to find out why. Come back an hour later and say my transceiver "went out". They had no explanation for me at all about how or what can make this go out, short, blow or whatever they called it. I was wondering 1)how this could have happened 2) If the programing procedure is carried out wrong could this cause damage and short/blow the transceiver 3) If it was blown why did my orignal keys work 4) could it be a regular fuse that is out that would cause the transceiver not to work. I lose my keys..... take it to the dealer and now its stuck there..with a $600 price tag on it for KEYS. Once I do get this resolved is there anyway to get rid of the PATS system all together?

I agree with KarTuneMan. Your a ripe customer ready for the picking. Unfortunately your at their mercy because they are the only ones that can replicate another key for you. At this point, if they say that they have to replace the PATS module, DEMAND that you get the old parts back. If they can not comeup witht he old parts, then they did not replace anything. There's no core exchange on these electronic parts, so you have every right to get your old parts back if they infact replaced it for you.Jeff

Yea, thats what I figured as soon as they came at me with that. I went ahead and paid 96.50 for the "work" they claim they did to cut and program a key(that I never saw and did not work so in my eyes they didn't cut and program squat)I am having it towed to another dealer today. From doing my research if the PATS transceiver is blown my previous keys that I had for years wouldn't have worked.. correct? Please correct me if I'm wrong..not dumb just a don't know too much about all this PATS stuff. Never had a problem with it.

yes if the transceiver was N/G your old keys wouldnt have workedIf i Can't Install it    I Don't need it   Joe
