I am attempting to install a Valet 712T in my 97 GMC truck, two door. From what i can find it has 5 wire reverse polarity wiring. The installation manual is very vague about whether i need to add relays or not, If someone can help me out on this it would be apreciated. Hopefully there is enough info here to get an answer if not i will try to add what is needed.

Thanks in advance

Here is the wiring layout for the Valet 712

Red - 12v constant power

Blue - (-)200mA secong unlock output

BLACK/ White-1 - input of domelight supervision relay #87

BLACK/ White - Output of domelight supervision relay #30

GREEN/ Black- Lock #30 Common output

WHITE/ Black - Lock #87 Normally closed

Violet/Black _ Lock #87 Normally open (Input)

Blue/Black - Unlock #30 Common (output)

Violet - Unlocke #87 Normally open (input)

White _ (+/-) Parking light flash output

Black - Chassis Ground input

Brown - (-) Horn honk output

Yellow - (+) Switched Ignition input accessory

BROWN / Black - Unlock #87 Normally closed

i did not add wire colors for options i dont want to use, and actually i really dont care if the dome light option works

Thanks again

can you specify which gmc truck exactly? Also you can't have five wire reverse polarity, it's either four wire reversal, or five wire alternating, again u need to specify!

You dont need to add relays, they're built in.  Follow the diagram for the 5 wire, reverse polarity diagram in the book.  That old 712T is a good unit.

Ok the book isnt the best for someone that hasnt done this before, i have wired in lights , radios and sirens but never one of these so i will type out what i think i should do and see if this should be right. Of course i know where the red and black wires go and i have the parking light flash wire working. So i think this is how the wiring should go for the door locks. I am adding the color of the wires for the door locks according to what i found on the color of wires for my model of truck.

GREEN/ Black from the unit would go to the Light Blue on my truck for lock

Blue/Black from the unit would go to the White on my truck for Unlock

The Violet and Violet/Black run into a fuse block down to one wire it take it that goes to a 12 v

the BROWN / Black and WHITE/ Black im not sure where those would go.

and do i need the Yellow wire hooked into the ignition, this unit at one time was in a crown vic and the yellow wire wasnt used there.

Hope this is understandable

ok, you need to cut your factory lock wires ( white and lt. blue) the BROWN / black and the WHITE/ black need to go to the switch side of the wires and the blue/black and the GREEN/ black need to go to the lock motor side ( the side that should go into the door).
i think the WHITE/ black wire goes with the GREEN/ black. the the BROWN / black goes with the blue/black. i'm really not sure, it could go the opposite way so be sure to have some extra fuses on hand.
purple goes to 12v constant
but first, are you using a 451M lock module? and are you sure you are dealing with a real 5-wire lock system and not just positive locks? you can check this with a meter and verify if you have a 5-wire locking system if both the lock/unlock wires rest at ground and one wire will be positive when you press the lock/unlock switch. if they do not rest at ground then you have a positive lock system most likely.

no, you dont need the 451m but you will need to get 2 spdt relays and wire them like this and make sure you put a 10 amp fuse on the constant 12v wire to the relays.
