Hi,

I just purchased 2009 Corolla LE with Smart Key system and after market CM4200-VD command start unit. This is manufactured by Compustart, however I did not get any remotes for the command start or user manual with this unit.

I'm trying to figure out what remote I would need and how to program it to Smart Key system. I contacted compustart  and this is what they told me "m< color=#1f497d>ost commonly, what you would have to do, is get into the vehicle.  DO NOT STEP ON FOOT BRAKE.  And Press the engine start button til the ignition turns on (sometimes you have to click it twice, once for Accessory second for Ignition) and keep pressing it on and off for 5 times the last time leaving it on to program.  If this is too difficult to do, you should consider bringing it back to your original place of installation."

< color=#1f497d>I tried out this step to see if I can get in to programming mode, but it does not do anything. I read that the tail lights are suppose to flash when the unit is in the programming mode, but my system does not do anything. I'm not very familar with samrt key system, and that is what's making it very difficult.

< color=#1f497d>Can someone please direct me to right path? This car came from difference province, so I don't have much information on how/where the command start was installed.

< color=#1f497d>Thank you.

First of all you reallly have to get rid of that macro:             < >< color=#1f497d>

Second of all do you have a bypass unit on this vehicle? What brand and model number? It may need to be progammed. You pobably will not be able to program a new remote with that style of starting system. Try manually crossing wires to the ignition on the remote start unit

Thank yo for the reply.

1st, I don't know how to disable macro. Not sure how it was enabled to start with.

2nd. It's a Compustart unit. The brain is CM4200. Also sold by NuStart...in Canada. What will crossing the wires on the starter will do?

Dude you gotta have a bypass for this to work.

First thing you need to do is order a remote from your nearest  dealer...

If the remote start system was actually working, look at the top inside of the windwhield for an antenna.  On it is a model number.  It will help you figure out what type of Compustar remotes to get.  When you get the proper type of remotes ( they will come with another antenna ) get a copy of the CM4200-VD install guide.  It will tell you how to program the remotes to your R/S control unit.

It would also help to look for the Bypass unit ( under the dash somewhere ) that was installed with the CM4200.  Get the brand and model number.  That info will help a lot.

My remote does not indicate anything, but I have located the installation manual for the type of unit that's installed on my car. http://nustart.ca/support/NUS-Install.pdf.

As for the remote, I have placed an order with the manufacture for replacement remote and I'm hoping to recive it anyday. It has AM antenna installed on it, that's for sure.

Thank you again for all the replies.

Hi,

Can someone please help me now. I have the new remote now for this unit. I need to understand this bypass thing so that I can program my new remote to the old unit.

Please and thanks!

Here are the steps to program the remote(s) to your R/S system.

1. Cycle the key in the ignition from the “Off” to the “On” position 5 times. This must be done within 7

seconds.
2. After the 5th cycle, you will hear the parking light relay “click” and see the parking lights flash once. Be
aware that the vehicle’s “chime” may prevent you from hearing the relay “click.”
3. Once you hear two relay clicks along with two parking light flashes, the system has just exited remote
coding mode. (Note: If no remotes are programmed at this point then the CompuStar will automatically
enter Valet Mode.)
4. Right after cycling the ignition the 5 times:
  a. 1-Way Remote: Tap the lock button on the remote for a split (0.5) second.
  b. 2-Way Remote: Tap button I for a split (0.5) second.
  c. 2-Way Spread Spectrum Remote – This remote requires a different procedure for programming
    I. Remove the (+) positive side of the battery from the remote.
II. Follow steps 1 to 3 above.
III. Slide (+) positive side of remote battery back into remote.
IV. Do not press any buttons on the remote as it is syncing with the antenna.
    V. Once the remote receives a page back, the 2WSSR is ready for use.
5. After tapping the button on the remote, you will hear the parking light relay “click” once to indicate that it
has accepted the remote. If you have other remotes you must program them at the same time, repeat steps 4a
or 4b for each remote you have.
6. After a few seconds you will hear two relay “clicks” and see two parking light flashes and remote coding
has been completed.

If the system was working and nothing was removed or disconnected or changed then it should all work once the new remotes are programmed.

After rereading and understanding the post replies, I understand now what the bypass everyone is talking about. Yes, I do have the "iDataLink" bypass unit installed in my car. So, what do I need to do no

Thank you kreg357 for reply. However, my problem is that I have a Push Start System (Samrt Key) in my car and it does not seem to operate same way as the tradional key system. I have tried all steps previously you mentioned in your reply, but had no luck. The system never gets in to programming mode. My parking lights never flash.
