Hello All--

Have a Viper 571XV installed on a '98 CR-V. Was working great. Then, my wife comes home and says that it's "not working". The remote has fresh batteries and all, but no button has any effect. No lock/unlock, remote start, or remote hatch release. I dug out the old factory remote and that still works. But, she really wants her remote start back. Does anyone have any ideas as to what/where I should check? Thanks in advance!

Have you tried to reprogram the remote to the "Brain"?   If you have the installer guide, it is on page 27.  Transmitter/receiver learn routine.

Thanks Rich. I had not tried that. I just finished replacing the shocks and installing a JVC KW-AVX820 in my Expedition. Now I can get the wife's car in and check it out. I'll let you know if that does it!

Nope, no-go. Had to take off the lower half of the driver panel to even find the program button. The guy who intsalled it hid the button and the LED waaayyyy up in the dash....Anyways, followed the instructions, and nothing happened. When I tried to enter program mode, the horn did not chirp and the LED did not light up. It's almost as if the car and the remotes think the alarm isn't there. Anybody have any ideas? Could the brain have died? This thing is only about 1.5 years old.....

Have you checked the fuse at the power wire of the alarm?

Sorry, forgot to mention- I did check all of the inline fuses that I could find leading to the unit. All were fine.

Do you have the companion remote or a second 2-way remote to try?  Just thinking could be the remote.

Switch the ignition on the back off and depress the valet switch once! And let me know if the led illuminates constantly!

That unit has no door pin input, and i can't remember trying to manually program it, dei units tend to want to "see" the door open to access programming, i wonder!

I'll have to check that when i get to work! Do you have the programming manual by chance?

Thanks for all the replies folks!

I have the owner's manual and the install manual.

I have tried both remotes. Nothing happens.

I just ran out to the garage and tried it. The first time, the LED blinked once and nothing happened. Tried it again. The LED came on steady, and the "lock/unlock" light on the remote blinked 3 times. Also, when the key is turned to the "On" position, the doors still lock automatically and then unlock automatically when the ingnition is turned off.

It seems that the unit is getting power.  Have you tried the shutdown diagnostics on page 36 of the install guide?

Or maybe delete all remotes in the transmitter/receiver routine menu and then try to auto learn the remotes again.
