So my friend gave me his used compustar p2wss and im working out the entire install to make sure I do it right. his was installed in a 05 sti and my car is an 03 civic. These forums have been a ton of help so far! Ok so the guy that installed it in his car used a relay with the output to starter kill in spot 85 the 12v constant in spot 86 and in spot 87a he has the output to starter and another wire comming out of it that i suspect he attahed to the wire coming from ignition switch also in in spot 30 he has another wire coming out that should also be attached my guess to starter motor? if anyone that understands relays better than me could look at this and just tell me if it makes any sense and if I have the connections right it would be very helpful. also with this setup do I cut the ignition wire and attach 87a from ignition and the other way toward starter motor to 30 or do i just tap the 87a into the ignition wire and 30 into my starter wire?

any help is greatly appreciated!

No it seems ok to me assuming that his relay to starter kill 85 grounds the connection since the other end 86 goes to 12v constant. The 30 and 87a are to the starter motor solenoid or relay from the ignition switch's start position. Do not cut your ignition circuit to connect to this circuit because the starter and ignition are two separate circuits but if you mean to use another relay wired the same way that's okay. But make sure it is worth it because those systems are so easy to bypass on old cars if the ignition +12v side of the ignition switch is all connected together.

ok thanks a ton! so just to make sure i understand this all I have to do is connect the wire comming out of 87a to my ignition wire and the wire comming out of 30 to my starter wire or is it the other way around?

contact-wise it doesn't matter unless you used 87 as well as 87a but make sure you are not confusing ignition +12v (IGN) with the starter circuit which might be different ie usually turning on the ignition is one switch or relay but cranking the starter is another switch or relay although it will get its power from the ignition switch/relay that was all i meant sorry but i am not familiar with the details of that system but that is where the real experts here at 12volt are lifesavers.

ok im sorry I messed up on my origilal post because there are two red wires and I messed them up, the relay has the output to ignition in spot 86 so it goes like this

86: output to ignition

85: output to starter kill

87a: output to starter and an etxra wire attached to nothing

30: extra wire attached to nothing

so now that I have my wires straight does this make sense and if so where do I need to attach the extra wires comming out of 87a and 30?

Forget all above the both of you are confusing me! This is how it should be wired. Ground when armed of Compustar   85
12V+ on ignition (BLACK / YELLOW)           86
Key side starter (BLACK/ white)             87a
Starter side of starter    (BLACK/ white)   30
Starter output from Compustar              87
For safety sake a diode (1N4004) across 85 and 86 with the band towards 86.
No constant supply to relay or you will be buying a new car battery!

the first time that relay goes out on you, you will wish you never did it anyway, if you insist on doing starter make sure you use a brand new bosch/tyco 30/40amp spdt relay.

One assumes that, i.e. Bosch type 5 pin SPCO relay used, also the way I set it up, the relay will only activate if the alarm is ON and someone tries to hot wire it. It will FAILSAFE since starter in an outs are NC.

ok so if I change it to look like this what should I use for the ground when armed of compustar in 85? will any ground in my car work or is there a specific wire coming out of the compustar that I need to use? will i have to use the compustar wire labeled output to starter kill at all or is this relay going to mean I dont need that? and what about the wire coming from the compustar that is labeled output to ignition since i will be hooking up the cars ignition to the relay will i not have to connect this anywhere? just to clarify I will need to cut the starter wire while doing this right?

The normally closed contact of the relay is in use here, so it's basically failsafe! Also relays tend to be very reliable regardless of the fact that they're not bosch or tyco! Been installing for years now and i've only seen a handfull of  relays go bad, and in all instances it never caused a no start situation in a vehicle!
