dei 522t , buzzing relay

Working on installing a DEI 522t Trunk opener on a 98 Cavalier with a Viper 5301. 

Question....When I activate the AUX for the trunk popper, the relay gives off a buzzing/chattering sound for the duration of the signal.  Is this normal for the relay to make this noise in this application??  The 522t does work.

I have 12 volts to 86/30 pin, 85 to viper negative signal, 87 to 12 volts out to trunk.  I have tried three other configurations of the pins with the same buzzing and chattering. 

If  I put the 12 volts out on my DMM red probe, I get the 12 volts, but no buzzing or chattering.  Only when it is on the 522t.

Are you using a separate switch with this? Also may I assume this is a cylindrical two wire unit with a round holding bracket. See what happens also if you disconnect the 522t from the trunk release.

Of course, diode across the coil terminals?

Yes, there is/was a seperate switch for this dog.   

It is as you described, (a cylindrical two wire unit with a round holding bracket).

I have tried the diode with the band towards pin 86, Still buzzed.  Tried the band toward 85, would not work. Tried taking the switch out of the equation, Still buzzing.  If I disconnect the the trunk popper no buzzing. No load of course.  I tried a different relay, same thing. 

Tried disconnecting the cable from the trunk release, same buzzing.

So, I guess it is what it is. I'll do some more research for a solution or put the relay in an easy to get at location in case it burns out.

Maybe a bum unit.   Thanks for the ideas of thing to try.

OK, one more thought since you've done all the logical things. a) What happens if you remove the wire from 85 and simply ground that terminal? That will tell us if the relay is OK. b) Sounds illogical I know but this is what I did on my own car, assuming the switch you fitted goes to ground, try an inline diode, bands away from the relay on both wires. I had to burn out an output transistor on a G4 Clifford to learn that trick. Leave the third diode on the relay coils with the band towards 86 (pos side). Sorry, can't answer the last question, Mr Idiot is the one for you there.

I am a BONEHEAD!   Need to own up to my mistake in case others have this issue.      Had a battery charger on the car that was supplying too much voltage to the whole unit.    Once my son took the charger off the car, no buzzing, no chattering, just a nice gently click of the relay and the trunk release pops easily.      Lesson learned.   Thanks once again.

THANKS for the closing. Not only to end any concern, but also provide another experience gone wrong - especially since I would not expected relay chattering from a charger with a battery connected. (Charger only - yes - almost definitely. I dread to think what peak voltage the charger was outing!) And thanks for the bonehead suggestion. I'm sick of waiting for ImAnIdiot to relinquish his!
