chipped key needed?

If the installer ever figures out how to get my 5901 working in my 2008 Dodge........ Can I use a non chipped key to start the truck? Right now I have the big huge black key with lock/unlock/panic buttons. I really don't want to carry a huge key AND the remote FOB. Thanks! Donald

I'm not sure what you mean by "if the installer ever figures out..." that car is actually quite easy with the right interface module. If your installer is having a lot of trouble getting it working I would probably recommend another installer. As far as your question about the 'huge key' and new remote...no you can not use a non-chipped key but you can pick up a new chipped key for the truck, without a remote built in.Installer, IT support, and FFL. I need less hobbies.

Too late for another installer. I paid these guys already. (stupid I know). Tha installer can't get the xk532 programmed. The alarm works fine, but remote start won't crank the engine.... Only turns on ignition. So I have a non chipped duplicate key from hardware store. Should it work? Thanks!

no. for programming that module they will need 2 programmed keys. I recommend them using a flcan by audiovox which will do 1 key programming. although the xk532 works just fine. i've used many in the past. the programming is a bit of a pain at first but overall those trucks are easy.A DMM is a beautiful thing.

I just looked through your other thread regarding this topic. You really need to listen to what the people in this forum have said already. No, a non-chipped key will NOT work. I never had a lot of luck with the XK532 style bypasses...the ones that have a chip glued to the board. I would stock some blank keys and pop them into a universal bypass to use when the pellet in the bypass wouldn't program. If it is a real shop they should have more than just one option for bypass...especially now that so many companies have options that don't require two keys, or a loop around the transponder ring for that matter. The reason you take your vehicle to a shop and pay for a job is to get something done that you can't do yourself and have it done right. Spending your time researching this is something you would have to do if you were trying to install it yourself. Seriously, being the owner of the vehicle...you are NOT getting what you paid for, either get the bypass changed or have them remove it, get your money back and take it somewhere else.Installer, IT support, and FFL. Twelvvoltz Thanks for your advice. I wish I could take it to somebody else, but there are only 2 dealers anywhere near me. The other one is best buy and I talked to them first and didn't get a good feeling about them. I'm going to ask them to use a better bypass module. They undoubtably don't have anything else that will work for me in the shop or I believe they would have tried it. The really bad thing is they are charging me $85 for this pos module.

85 is the average price for the module, but they should have other bypass solutions on hand.

you definitly shouldnt have paid if the job was not complete.
