I have a viper 5902 and am having a problem with remote start. System is installed in a 98 land rover discovery. On occasion, when remote starting, the alarm will sound and cut the vehicle off. "trunk trigger" is showing on the remote. What could be causing this issue? This does not happen all the time, only on occasion.

I doubt that it is the reason. This is an suv and there is no trunk. Trunk trigger is on the door circuit and wired into factory door trigger.

check your wiring, make sure your trunk trigger is isolated with tape and not making momentary contact to the body at any point. make sure it isn't programmed to a normally open circuit switch either.

The doors are hooked up to the trunk trigger or is there a specific trunk trigger switch? When a door is opened with the alarm on it says trunk trigger so I am assuming this is the door circuit for all doors. It only happens once in a while and seems to be worse when it is really hot outside.

Looking at the manual, it appears H1/6 and H1/8 are the door trigger inputs. H/7 is the trunk pin instant trigger. I also have a tilt sensor and it is wired to the trunk trigger input apparently with the doors. The installer did say that the something about the trigger pulse input being different on the land rover. Should the doors have been hooked up to H/1 and H/8 instead of the H/7? Would hooking the doors to the H/7 and tilt to the H/7 cause this issue?

Looking again at the manual, either H6 OR H8 one them, the violet is a positive input and you won't be using it. The trunk or hatch or rear door or whatever you want it to be called will be on a BLUE wire. First step, disconnect that POS tilt switch.
If that fails to cure the problem trace the blue wire, it probably goes to the factory security unit passenger side under dash.
You just might have a faulty switch, remember this was still a Rover product before BMW and then Ford kicked them up the backside to improve the quality.

Why is the tilt a POS? It appears that ALL the doors are on the trunk trigger H7 wire b/c it dos not matter what door I open...ALL report as trunk trigger when opened when the alarm is active. Doors are not hooked up to H6 or H8 wires and do not report as door trigger when opened. Both the doors and tilt are on H7 trunk trigger input.

Poor installation, they should have been wired separately.
Green on Viper to left and right door triggers dioded together at the factory security module as mentioned earlier, blue to another terminal at the factory security module. Tilt sensors are unreliable unless carefully installed and set up. Since all your doors are wired at the same point I would guess your installers are one place you won't be visiting again. If you did the install take it to a pro and have it re-installed.
