Hey guys. I'm trying to install a simple Avital 2101L Remote Start into my 1995 BMW 318Ti. I have a factory BMW ETM, and I've gone thru the Avital install manual, and it really makes no sense. I've learned that the BMW has positive trigger locks, and I've located the lock & unlock wires in the car. However, I have no idea what wires in the Avital harness need to be hooked to what. Can anybody please help? Thanks in advance!!

If there's a factory alarm, neg locks at the alarm plug WHITE/ black lock and blue/red unlock.
If no factory alarm, pos, pin 4 unlock (vacant pin) and pin 17 unlock blue/red pins are opposite each other, yellow or violet on later models, centre quadlock plug on module. Which is what I think you mean by the ETM.
Extend the lock pulse for window/roof close and diode from lock to unlock to achieve deadlock on arming.
White (if I remember) quadlock plug to the right has 2 triggers, all coloured brown primary with yellow, grey, grey, blue etc. secondaries, also 2 x silver dots on the correct wire. Diode together.
Pin required fore the hood and you have to go to left hand rear, in front of bulkhead on saloon, top right corner going up "C" pillar or into the trunk on coupés, BROWN / white.
Not in the install manual, connect your ignition 2 to the vehicles violet wire at the ignition, DON'T use the Avital ACC wire.
Tach is at a plug, rear of instrument panel, black wire.
Use a 556UW by-pass wired Euro style, i.e. cut and join, no loop (see instructions) and use the valet key, not a regular key.

I'm sorry, but that doesn't make ANY sense to me.  As I stated, I know what the wiring in the CAR is.  All I need to know is which wires on the Avital harness are lock/unlock for this type of installation.  Why would I need a tach wire, or any of the rest of the stuff you were talking about?

If you don't need a tach wire or the other info, good luck making the R/S work.
Need to know what wires are lock and unlock on the Avital? I haven't a clue, you have the unit and the instructions, read them.

Wow, you're a dick, and can't read (or can't google, one or the other).  Who said anything about remote start?  If you'd google the model number, it's a keyless entry only system.  I'm asking because the install manual makes no sense to me, it seems as if there are 3-4 wires for lock and unlock, a few for 'common' - whatever that is, and there's no explaination whatsoever of what any of these do.

Dick? Read your first post fool.
"Hey guys. I'm trying to install a simple Avital 2101L Remote Start into my 1995 BMW 318Ti."
If as you say there are 6 wires it means you have relay driven lock wires which can be configured for any type of lock.
RTFM.
YOU have to test to see what type they are, I've already given you the colour options, type and where located.

OK.  For the third time now - I KNOW WHAT WIRES IN THE CAR I NEED!  What I don't understand is the AVITAL harness.  And for the 2nd time, I HAVE RTFM.  I'm an noob at the whole aftermarket alarm/convenience thing, not cars or car electronics.  Perhaps the manual is meant for a pro installer that does this everday?  Thats not me.  I build engines and make them go fast, have been installing audio for going on 12 years now.  Never installed an alarm, remote start, or keyless setup before.  Give me a break.

FWIW, the 318ti is m52 powered, TRM tuned, and have coilovers and BBK on the way  :)

I hate that I can't edit a post here.  I meant to add, none of the above I do as a profession.  I'm a hobbyist (for the most part, obviously do side work here and there).

Read where the manual describes type A POS and type B NEG locks.
YOU still have to test for which type.
If the manual doesn't tell you, still test and I'll configure them for you.
By the way I've yet to meet a mechanic who knew the first thing about vehicle electrics.

I can't seem to find the .pdf online of the install manual, but it really makes no mention of what you're talking about.  It's simply a wiring diagram/chart, and instructions for programming.  I only have 2 wires i need in the car - one for lock, one for unlock as shown in the photo below.  I'm a-ok with vehicle electronics & diagnostics.  Chop up an engine harness or remove a ground somewhere, or cook a module that effects 15 different things in the car, no big deal, I can handle pretty much anything with factory wire wiring diagrams and a DMM or scantool.  As I've said, I've never tried to install any aftermarket stuff like this with such little documentation.
