What system are you installing ? The flashes indicate a code which should be covered in the install guide

According to the Install Manual,
5 Fast Flashes is
New Transmitter learn
Tach learn
Are other functions working? lock/unlock/trunk?
Relearn the tach and make sure you put the system into ready mode and try it again.
Also, to rule out transmitter issues, try triggering the remote starter with the purple external trigger input wire (pin 9 of the 12-pin harness).

Soldering is fun!

One last question, which is the best wire to use with the horn (lock, unlock, arm, disarm,or one of the aux out wires)

Looking thru the manual that kreg357 linked to above -
Horn Confirmation:
AUX 1 can be programmed to trigger the horn every time the LOCK button is pressed, or when the LOCK
button is pressed twice within 3 seconds. When horn confirmation is activated, panic mode is enabled. If
horn confirmation is disabled, panic mode will not be available.
Mode 3
FUNCTION 2 – AUX 1 Programming
OPTION 1 Horn confirmation upon the 2nd press of the LOCK button
OPTION 2* Priority door access
OPTION 3 Horn confirmation upon the 1st press of the LOCK button
You would use either Option 1 or 3 depending on your personal preference.
