Hi I guided a coworker to installing an aps 997 c prestige in a 05 Tacoma . I didn't recommend using relay to bypass clutch but gave in info to do it . There has got be be a way to ensure truck is in neutral with all the extra options on alarm similar to compustar units. Any idea? Just trying to prevent damages

Below is the first sentence in the APS 997 C install guide ( after the programming tables ).

This Remote Start/Alarm System is designed to be used with Automatic Transmission- Fuel Injection

Vehicles Only!

While some manual transmission vehicles have an actual "Neutral Safety" wire ( i.e. Subaru's ), the liability issues arising from

an install like this could be astronomical.  Bottom line, only a remote start system that is approved by the manufacturer for a
manual transmission should be installed in a manual transmission vehicle.

I sincerely hope no one gets injured from this install and strongly suggest it gets removed.  A proper / safe system costs about the same.

Soldering is fun!

Agree with Kreg here. Take the avox unit out and get a dei unit. It is still a liability so solder every connection. Imagine a lawyer looking at your install! 2005 toyota tacoma, manual transmission -- posted image. Cover your hind quarters.

Yes I'm aware of what the manual says. I didn't install the system. I simply helped him with finding wires. Of course I wouldn't do this for someone I hardly know . I wouldn't be held liable for accidents. If anyone can tell me where I could find a two way remote start alarm for 129.00 I'd be impressed. He understands he is responsible

Sometimes it's hard to put a price on safety.  Even harder to put a price on a child's life that was playing in the driveway when

the car is remote started.  It's installs like this that give this industry a bad reputation.

Any time you bypass the clutch interlock switch, you are bypassing a very important safety feature.  No one is perfect, mistakes

can happen.  If the transmission is left in gear, the 2 ton vehicle will move during the remote start, even with the Parking Brake
fully engaged.  Do a search on YouTube to see some of the results.

You can find decent two-way remote start with keyless entry and alarm systems that are manual transmission safe for around

$130.  Ultra Start makes the U4296M system ( http://www.ultrastarters.com/product_pages/4296m.htm ).  Viper makes the 5701
( 520x ) system and ones that have been manufacturer refurbished sell for $120 - $140.  Here is a link to the 5201V owners
manual : https://www.directeddealers.com/manuals/OG/Viper/g5210v%202012-06%20web2.pdf

Sorry to be so negative on this.  I am not worried about losing business.  I'm not worried about the vehicle or a garage door,

insurance companies can handle that.  I am concerned about someones child being hurt or worse.
