Hello,
I am currently working on an installation for a 2009 Toyota Yaris Manual shift. I am using the Ultra Start U1281m remote starter. I am running into some trouble and was wondering if anyone here had experience with this and may know what the problem is.
I hooked up all the primary connections, the parking lights, brake switch, ground, (-) door trigger, parking brake wire and all that. When I try to put the system in reservation mode to attempt a remote start, all it does is flash the lights 4 times telling me the system is not in reservation mode. Well yea - thats because I am trying to set it! Any ideas or has anyone ran into this before?
Thanks!

A few thoughts.

1.  You must be in Tach Mode and the Tach signal must be successfully learned.
2.  To enter Reservation Mode the engine must be running ( Thick Blue wire connected
to the vehicles Pink main Ignition wire )  and the U1281 must see the Parking Brake
being applied.  Verify that the wire listed below is connected to a valid (-) Parking
      Brake signal.
Pin 8  BLACK/ WHT Park Brake Input (-) Connect to the Park Brake wire. Must be
 connected on manual transmission models.
Parking Brake    Yellow (-)   @ dash fuse box, white 16 pin plug (4C), pin 2 or switch

Additionally, after Reservation Mode is set, to get the engine to remote start, you will

need to bypass the Clutch interlock switch.  Here is that info from Omega :
Clutch Pedal   YELLOW (INPUT) BLACK (OUTPUT) (+N.O.)  @ CLUTCH PEDAL SWITCH
You could use the AUX1 output ( set to IGN1 ) and a relay for this.

Soldering is fun!

Plus key sense. Other wise your remote won't work if engine already running.

Hello - thanks for the update!
I connected tach and did tach learning. The system flashes/chirps twice indicating it learned the tach signal per the installation manual.
The ignition output from the remote starter is correctly showing 12 volts at the plug to the brain when the key is in on, run and start positions.
I do try to enter reservation mode with the engine running but it doesn't do anything. It simply flashes 4 times for some reason telling me it's not in reservation mode.
I tested all major wires that could interfere with the starter's function (parking brake, door trigger, brake switch, ground) and everything is reading the correct voltage/polarity right at the plug for the brain so I know the connections are solid.
I haven't done the clutch bypass yet (thanks for that wiring info that will be helpful!) because I don't like to add any additional wires until I know the base installation works, but I should still be able to set reservation mode and then remote start the vehicle with manually pressing the clutch shouldn't I?
Howie - not sure what you are referencing. I have never had to hook up a keysense wire to the starter and there is no keysense input on this model either. In my experience with the Ultra brand, when the engine is running, you can either trigger "pit stop" mode or use lock/unlock, but the system already knows the engine is running on it's own.
Im stumped... I've never had this problem before! :(
Thanks so much all!

Sorry - I meant to say:
The ignition output from the remote starter is correctly showing 12 volts at the plug to the brain when the key is in on, run and start positions. is correctly connected to the vehicles wire on the key cylinder that shows 12 volts when the key is in on, run and start positions.

Parking brake? Did you mention you'd connected the BLACK/ white to the p/brake switch?
I've done 2012 diesel, you couldn't unlock it with the remote start running unless key sense was connected (using a status output-GWR wire).

Ahhh - now I get it. Well this one is base model manual everything so no locks needed :). That is odd though - I have done dozens of automatics and even my mother's Hyundai van, my Honda Civic and my Buddies Chevy Silverado and never needed keysense - I wonder if it was a quirk with just that vehicle?
Yep - BLACK/ White is connected to the parking brake switch and is showing ground when raised right at the plug to the brain... It doesn't make any sense at all why it's not working - I tested everything before connecting to it, retested everything at the plug level before connecting to the brain and still not working.

Also all the Yaris from about 97 when they were introduced here, the UK models all had power locks and windows.

Yea - pretty much all of em over here do too but this is like the absolutely bare bones bottom barrel model - it has manual everything and doesn't even have a chip in the key either.
I even called Ultra's tech support directly and they are pretty stumped themselves. They gave me 2 suggestions which I already know aren't going to work and are going to likely deem the unit defective. Fun...
