Hello Everyone - I am new to this forum... hope I can find some help with this install
I am installing a Avital 4105L and PKALL remote start and keyless entry in my sons 2000 Ford Taurus. He just wanted remote entry, but I wanted to also give him remote start (trying to be a nice guy). Anyway, I didn't realize DIRECTED didn't offer customer support unless you were a dealer. Now I am stuck trying to put this in. Background on Car - 2000 Ford Taurus without factory keyless entry. It's my teens first car so I wanted him to know how some of this works.
Problems -
1 - I do not know how to hook up the door locks? The wires are missing that it says to hook to
2 - Do I need to hook up the tach wire? If so, can I connect in the cab? (can't get through the firewall)
3 - Do I need to hook up the hood safety switch? Again, can't get through the firewall
4 - Will I be able to program with only one key? I bought this bypass because we only have one key
Thanks!
Totally trying

Here is a photo of the GEM module under the driver side dash that shows the needed lock wires :

Not absolutely necessary. You can try running in Virtual Tach Mode. Tach Mode provides more reliable start ups in cold climates
3 - Do I need to hook up the hood safety switch? Again, can't get through the firewall
No, but it is a very good safety measure.
4 - Will I be able to program with only one key? I bought this bypass because we only have one key
Not with the PKALL. You will need two, non-clone keys to program that bypass module.

Thank you for the quick response. I don't see a pink/light green or pink/yellow coming from the GEM? Can I goto the dealer to get a second key? I have a picture of the wires, just not sure how to show it to you?

Yes, the dealer can make you another key. Just ensure that it is not just a clone of your current key
but a unique transponder key.
All of the wire listings I have indicate finding the lock wires at the GEM module and all of that era Taurus
that I have done had them. Your White 26 Pin Plug is definitely lacking a bunch of wires. Perhaps it's because
the car didn't come with Factory RKE. Perhaps someone else has lock info specific to your vehicle. Short of
that, you will have to test the wires going into the door via the door harness or in the Driver Kick Panel.

Ok Thanks! I think it was rare for these to come without a keyless entry, someone said it was a rental Car? There is a screw in the cross bar for some reason. The door locks seem like they want to activate when this makes a connection. Maybe this was a add on at some point? I will post a pic. There was also a unused white connector hanging behind the bar, you can see this to the left side of the barAvital 4105L PKALL Install 2000 Ford Taurus -- posted image.

Here is a photo of a 2001 Taurus and that same area :

That Black Ground is an aftermarket add-on. If it wasn't part of your install, I would try to follow
that wire to see if it goes to some sort of black box. It's possible that it was a tracking system the
rental car company added. Just as a note, a removable cross-bar is not an ideal location for a Chassis
Ground connection. Solid, unpainted, frame in the DKP or firewall area is preferred.
As for the door lock wires, try looking for those same color wires in the DPK area.

Looks like it was part of a keyless entry system. Now I need to figure out how to connect to it?

It would appear that your Taurus has an aftermarket power lock system.   I personally have never seen
a Taurus without factory power locks. If that is the controller in the car, I would move that Chassis Ground
connection to a better location. Next locate the M4 harness going to the drivers door. It should have five wires.
See if it has a Purple and Brown wire like the M5 controller diagram has. If it does have those same color
wires, you could try using a 2 Amp fused jumper to ground applied briefly to the Purple wire to see if it locks the doors
and then apply a pulse to the Brown wire to see if it unlocks the doors. If that works OK, you can connect
the 4105's Blue and Green lock outputs to the respective wires.
I believe that another forum member has used SPAL units and might be able to provide more detailed info. I'll
see if he is awake...    Avital 4105L PKALL Install 2000 Ford Taurus -- posted image.
