I have installed the hornet 554t. After remote starting the car it runs for about 3 - 5 seconds then it shuts down. The car runs fine if I use the key to start it.

What kind of car? Did you use a bypass? If you leave your key in the ignition (not turned or anything just stick it in) and remote start it does it stay running?

1)1996 honda civic HX coupe.

2)Don't need a bypass.

3)Didn't try that.

It could be that I have the ing #2 and the accessory wires mixed up. I got a wiring diagram from bulldog security which listed the ing #2 wire as yellow and the accessory wire as WHITE/ black, but on this site it is the reverse. That could be the problem.

If the car actually starts then your ign and acc wires are fine. More than likely the r\s is set to current sense instead of tach sense mode. Once the vehicle starts, the r\s unit does not "realize" the veh has started and therefore cycles out to try the sequence again. Try switching to tach mode or at least change the threshold to a lower setting for the current sense.
Hope this helps.

I had (have) a similar issue. We installed a r/s in my friend's '97 Civic, and programmed it for tach. It's worked great for a year. He just got a new car battery put in, and now when he remotely starts it, it like "skip starts", and then dies. It doesn't even start. So I think it might have reprogrammed itself back to "tachless" from the new battery.

How can I program it for tach sense? I've changed the jumper to tach threshold.
