I have recently installed a r/s in a 1996 Pontiac Sunfire, 5 speed. I used an AutoStart AS-1785 module with an AstroFlex PassLock III bypass module. This is a dip switch type bypass module. Everything works with the r/s, door locks, trunk, idle mode, remote valet, the works, but the problem I'm having is with the actual remote starting. With the car in ready mode, (standard trans) the car will start, and then quickly shut off and the Anti-Theft blinks. It will do this 2-3 times in a row after hitting the stop button, and on the 4,5,6 try it will start and stay running, and then do the opposite again. It has a PassLock 1 system, and I've checked the voltage countless times and its bang on. Please, does anyone have any suggestions.

Hi, Im not familiar with the product your installing, but I never liked Passlock 1 bypass modules(and Ive used ALL of them.) For Pass1 I always use 2 relays and a resistor, never fails.(and its cheaper!)

Let me know if you need a diagram for those relays.

some passlock modules tell you to use chassis ground to ground the by pass module ie audiovox as-gm4. use the reference ground for the pass lock system on the car. i am not sure if that is your problem, but audiovox technical always says to try that. hope it helps

Thank you for the tips fellas. I've already paid for the passlock, so i would like to try and use it. Misterjimbo, the reference ground, that would be the 3rd wire of the passlock from the ignition? I got really poor installation instructions with the r/s, and consulted a friend on the more difficult parts. AutoStart is an upgraded model of AstroStart of Quebec.

I've never had a dipswitch bypass module work on a Passlock I.

J Rilla - avxtech mentioned that he had not heard of AutoStart. It is a company out of Quebec, Canda. The AutoStart name is the higher end models of r/s, AstroStart the cheaper ones.

The dealer I bought the whole system from gave me the PassLock III module, he said it would work just fine and as far as I know, that's all he uses. But, he is relatively new to r/s sales and installs. You would recommend going with the two relay system as a permanent option? as you posted earlier.

the reference ground i was speaking of is the one wire of the 3 passlock wires that always shows ground. audiovox technical says that this wire is best to use because it relies on the pass lock system and any fluctuations in the passlock will also aply to the by pass... i am not sure that is the story they told me

Yeah I install AstroStarts and I am pretty sure they are not the cheaper line of Autostarts.

I would use the 2 relays and a resistor as a permanent setup, unless you want to buy a PLXR bypass module from someone like bypasskit.com.

If you dont want to use a trimpot, you should be sure to buy a resistor within 5% of the measured resistence. I heard you should use the higher of the two resistences recorded and it has always worked for me. I use trimpots because they are as close to the exact measurement as you can get.

I guess the dealer just wanted me to think that I was getting a better deal on the r/s. Oh well, too late now. I will try all of your suggestions, as soon as my shop roof stops getting snow on my car. Thank you all for your help.
