First of all... this is my first post here but probably wont be my last.
Second... I have used the search function but nothing has come up that will solve my issues.
Now for the problem...
Over the weekend I installed my girlfriend's APS996a car alarm, and while it was my first car alarm install (we all have to start somewhere) I know I performed all the wiring correctly. However the programming side of the APS996a is something to be left desired.
By default the lock and unlock functions work correctly and the horn and siren go off simultanously, which is a good response.
What it comes down to is the Remote Start functionality of the unit. I double checked and the wiring is working correctly. Also the starter inhibit relay function is working correctly... however the remote start does not work.
Which comes to the question of the day. How in the heck do I program the remote? What is the default button to enable the remote start function.
Also the LCD remote constantly has the siren (looks like a volume control) & lock/unlock in the windshield. The volume control icon is not flashing though if it makes any difference. I just think it means that the siren is working.
The panic function is easy to enable but it doesn't disable at all until the 30 seconds are completed. The remote doesn't respond at all during those 30 seconds.
So to sum it up....
1. How do I enable / program remote start
2. How do I program the remote (steps please), the manual doesn't really go into this.
3. Is the volume control icon supposed to be displayed at all times?
4. How do I get it that I can disable the panic function in the 30 seconds it is turned on?
Thank you so much everyone,
Yvo

the button with the key on it pressed twice will remote start the car.

to program the remotes you need to look at the supliment that came in the package. it explains in detail how to program the remotes

Volume control icon?

for the panic, hold the unlock button for three seconds this will disarm the panic

Found the manual. Apparently I have to have it detect the tach first and I will do that during my lunch later.
It looks like this icon

Only b/w and flat (not 3d looking) its located to the left of the lock/unlock icon.

the car wil not start if you do not have the tach learned, or you could set it to voltage sense, but i suggest tach

I install these on a daily basis. Definatly a tach issue. Prestge remote starters will not even attempt to remote start untill the tach is learned. If you dont learn the tach and try to remote start it the parking lights will flash 7 times stating that the tach hasent been learned.

You guys got it... took me forever during lunch as programming is pretty tricky and its really a matter of pressing it "right on time"
Remote starts works successfully. Have to unlock the car, start it up, then lock the car again as the inhibitor prevents it from cranking when its armed. I think this is supposed to happen.
The only remaining issue remains that I get shocked EVERY time when I step out of the car and I touch the metal part of the body. I thought it was first me carrying a residual charge but other people have noticed this too. I thinking one of the grounds isn't hooked up properly. Any ideas?
Thank you guys.

what kind of car do you have? maybe you can have a factory alarm disarm wire on the car, so you do not have to use the lock and unlock for remote start. if you do not have a disarm wire... there is an auxilary plug that came with the 996. it is a 4 pin plug wiht black wires with different colored stripes. one is a neg. before crank, and one is a neg. after remote start. you can tie these into the lock and unlock wires so that when you remote start it will unlock the doors to let the car start and lock them after the car starts. i have not run into a car that would not crank if the doors were locked though. hmmm, but i have not done all cars either.
