Several times I have my remote die while I'm not in the truck and the alarm is armed and so I have to use the key to unlock the door to get inside. The thing is the alarm goes off and I usually end up digging in my center console looking for a AAA battery to replace the one in the remote with. Is this normal or is there a wire missing that should disarm the alarm when I unlock with a key?

Oh ya its a 03 Chev S-10 with a Viper 791xv.

No thats the way it suposed to work. It only disarms with the remote.

only factory systems disarm with the remote, while aftermarket like the 791 go off to protect your vehicel in case somebody jacked your key.

there's no valet switch? i can't remember the 791xv very well, but i recall that pretty much every dei product has a valet switch.

all problems can be resolved with a hammer

Yeah it has a valet switch, as long as it was installed. If not you can hook it up for about 2.00 or go back to the shop and ask them to do it for you. Basically you have a preset # of pules the valet switch has to be hit to disengage or turn off the alarm. If you had it installed they probably use a default setting of "x" times and can show you how to do it.

PS- if your remote keeps malfunctioning you may need a new one. those remotes are a little fragile if you throw them around.

make sure to mention the valet switch only works in conjunction with the ignition key.... you put the key in and turn it to ign, then press the valet switch to shut off the alarm.... if you dont have a spare battery you're buggered cause the starter kill wont allow you to start the vehicle with shutting it down first.....
