I installed my old Variant remote start in my Durango last weekend. It has been in a Isuzu rodeo working great. The Durango starts but then the remote box clicks and the Durango dies. Any clues? I looked at the 1998 Durango alarm chart and I think I have hooked everything up correct, but I will double check this weekend. I can't remember if I have the Dark blue and the Black orange hooked up to the Ignition output or just one of them. Can I tie these together b/c there is only one output. The 2nd ignition output is a neg for Chevys. Thanks for any input!

Make sure your tach wire is correct and also make sure your unit learned the tach correctly or is programmed correctly.

You will need the blue ignition wire for the unit to run and the BLACK/ orange for the heater to work. You shouldn't need extra relays as the remote start should have enough outputs.

Maybe thats it, I never had the tach cable connected before on the Rodeo, it didn't need it. I had cut it shorter, can I extend it without a problem?

yes you can extend it and no dont connect the 2 circuits together , this is never a good idea. there is a reason they are seperate. better to be safe than sorry. if you want the accessories hooked up use a relay off the neg output.

The tach wire was the problem. It starts great now! But now I have a new problem. I didn't realize it had an alarm, when I lock the doors and try to start it with the remote start the horn starts blaring. Of course if I don't lock my doors it starts the vehicle just fine. I need to lock my doors 98 Dodge Durango remote start -- posted image.

Any ideas? I lost my instructions for the variant alarm so I don't know what is triggering it.

there is a green /orange wire in the plug left of the brake tap this to the factory alarm disarm signal out of the brain or you can permanetly defeat by grounding it.
