I just got my Excalibur ATV-1000 in the mail today.  I am looking to install it myself, I have done electrical work before, but not on an automobile.  At least, I think I am.  I am mainly looking for tips or hints as to things I need to look out for.  I will be adding door actuators in the near future, after I am sure the alarm went in okay.  My truck specs are below.  Is there anything that I need to look out for or be wary of in this model, alarm or truck?  Any tips that the wise ones can offer?

Thanks for any help you can give,

No remote start.  I thought that would be too risky with a manual tranny.

OK took a look under the dash and tried to compare wires before cutting and soldering.  I thought it was a good idea for a beginner, but I just ended up getting frustrated.  At any rate, I have a couple of questions.

1) My repair manual says to look for a dk blue / YELLOW wire coming from the ignition switch to tap into for the starter interrupt.  Well there is no db/yl wire there.  I look on the database here and it says to use the yellow wire.  I just want to make sure before I cut into it.  The yellow wire looks to be the same gauge as the wires on the relay.

2) Where should I tap into for the constant power.  I was thinking I could go through the firewall and use an opening in the main fuse box.  Or is there a better place under the dash?

3) Will it be incredibly hard to add pin switches and such later on?  I want to put a switch on the tail gate and the hood but really don't have the time right now.  Should I just go ahead and mess with it now?

I guess it won't be that hard because I only have to use one wire as the pin switch can just be a negative polarity switch.  Can I just change polarities like that?

Thanks for your help,

CRJoslin

Well, I hooked everything up and ... nothing.  The alarm goes off when I turn the ignition to the "on" position.  Well, I finally, somehow, got the transponders programmed.  Once I found out that I had to strip the pk/bk wire not the bk/pk I got somewhere.  Only to find that the pk/bk wire was not a constant 12V either.  Does anyone know of another wire that I can use for a constant 12V?

Thanks,

CRJoslin

If you are using the wires at the Ignition Switch harness:

RED is Constant................

Thanks, I just found that out.  Got it working!  Thanks for your help and diagram!  No the only problem that remains is that I cannot program it.  The valet switch used to program it is not getting any response.  There is no confirmation chirp when I press it five times.

One other minor issue is the dome light.  I think though that the wires are not making good contact.  But that is of little concern at the moment.

Any ideas on the valet switch?

Thanks,
CRJoslin
