I'm installing an alarm in an '05 subaru outback.  Do I need any bypass module?

Yes you need a bypass module for this vehicle. There are keyless modules available as well as door lock modules for easier installations for the door lock systems. ( interface for Door Locks, Trunk, OEM Security Arm/Disarm, Panic.)
