I'm installing a remote starter with keyless entry in a 2001 Dakota. I've identified the OEM alarm disarm (GREEN/ orange stripe at the CTM, pin 14 on 16 pin connector). According to what I've read, a negative trigger through 644 & 1565 ohm resistors will arm/disarm, respecively. I've tapped into the wire, I did not cut it.
It doesn't work for me when I simply touch the wire to ground. Am I doing something wrong?
Thanks for your help.

you won't be able to trigger anything with just the ground, you need the resistors it is calling for and then it will work through the alarm

I'm touching the wire to ground through the proper resistor, I'm not going directly to ground. Should this arm/disarm the alarm or does the "ground trigger" have to be more controlled?

Usually 250 - 500ma  will do it thru the correct resistor, but some vehicles require a stronger GROUND which you should use a Relay.

How are you testing the ARM / DIS-arm??

I've tapped into the OEM alarm disarm wire (call the tap wire "wire 1". Within wire 1 I have a 644 ohm resistor. I touch the end of "wire 1" to ground briefly. This should arm my OEM alarm. Am I missing something? Should this work?

Ground Pulse thru a 644 ohm Resistor should ARM the Factory Alarm, as long as the Ignition is OFF, Doors are Closed, & Dome lights are off.
That is if the Vehicle has FACTORY Alarm

No luck. How can I confirm I have an OEM alarm? My remote is a D-Chrysler remote.

Roll down driver side window, close all doors, lock using OEM remote, wait approx. 1 minute, open door from inside. If the factory alarm sounds, then you know it has it 2001 Dakota, negative trigger not working -- posted image. You can also try locking it from the outside with the key.

I've done all that. My truck is a 4WD, 4DR Dakota SPORT. Someone on a private post thougth that mattered and the wiring might be different.

Have the Dealer / Service Dept. run a Build Sheet............Give them V.I.N. , shouldn't cost anything, unless you want printout, but who knows
