I installed a (Auto start AS-1260) on a 95 Golf (standard) and when trying to put the car into "ready" mode... instead of the lights flashing 3 times they only flash once... I hear a click from the unit then after a few seconds another click... like the unit tried something then gave up.
I think all of the wires are hooked up correctly... but obviously not. Does anyone have any suggestions?

Have you learned tach yet?  Is your e-brake wired correctly and engaged?

Are you sure your model isn't AS-1260M? I believe the manual units have to have the M at the end. Describe what wires/colors/locations you used for door trigger & parking brake.

The As-1260 is a manual model Steve. Autostart doesn't designate their manual or automatic line with a letter. Did you go into ready mode properly ??
1. Close Hood and Doors.
2. Make sure shifter is in Neutral.
3. Get in and start vehicle with the key.
4. Apply the Parking brake.
5. Within 20 sec. press either Button on
transmitter.
(Parking lights will flash 3 times quickly, and
stays ON)
6. Remove the key vehicle will stay running.
7. Exit the vehicle and close the door.
8. Press and hold either Buttons on transmitter
until the vehicle shuts down.
The vehicle will now be in ready mode, to start
press START on the transmitter.

I did learn the tach and yes  emergency brake wire is hooked up properly.

Yes I do "try" to get into ready mode properly...  And to confirm... the As-1260 is for manual transmissions only.  It says it on the bottom of the unit.

I did not hook up the door trigger wires.  Do I really need to for this to work?  I also did not hook up the "starter kill" wire... or the "out when running" wire.  What if the dome wire is not right?

See the wiring diagram for the unit here --> http://engines911.com/asdocs/AS-1260_wd_en_h100s100v101_001115.pdf

Yes, you definately need the door trigger wire. This is a crucial part of the reservation mode setup process. The door opening and closing is what tells the system that you have safely exited the vehicle with the engine running.

According to that link he just provided it shows an M at the end of the model # in the install manual.

LOL, you love correcting folks on that huh Bob. I find myself second guessing alot when I write a post just to make sure you don't come back to bite me, because I'm used to saying e-brake too. remote start won’t go into ready mode -- posted image.

There is no wire on the unit for "door trigger" it is #13 right?  Look at the diagram http://engines911.com/asdocs/AS-1260_wd_en_h100s100v101_001115.pdf  #13 is empty.

What about the "out when running"... Do I need this one hooked up also?  cause there is no wire there either (#10)

Pretty much on those units the dome light is your door trigger. Choose either (+) #8 orange or (-) #9 gray and tie it into the dome light circuit so that the unit will know when the door is open or not. No, #13 is for triggering remote start with the output of another alarm system output or a push button within the vehicle. You only need the out when running if you are using a bypass for the key security such as an immobilizer.
