My 2000 Chev Silverado pickup has a Viper 150ESP remote start which worked well until yesterday. Now when I try to remote start it, the starter cranks for about 1second and that's it. Almost as if the battery was dead, but it's not. Checked fuses and realys for the remote start. All OK.
Does anyone knows where I could get an installation manual for this Viper? I think that will be needed to troubleshoot further.  Thanks

1. check to see if the security light on your dash is on when this happens. if so its a problem with the passlock system.

2. check to see if there is a hood pin switch or mercury switch installed. i had a car today that had a similar problem. turns out the mercury switch was loose and whenever the car cranked, it would make a contact on the switch and shut off the starter.

Thanks...  great ideas. The security light is not on. It has a hood pin switch. The hood pushes it down and breaks the connection, but it could be improperly adjusted. Will check tomorrow.

the remote starter would not crank at all if the hoodpin was at fault. my guess is that the unit is in tachless mode and undercranking. take your truck to authorized viper dealer and have them reprogram tachless mode or run a tach wire for optimum performance

Problem turned out to be a relay - the one that the remote starter energizes to crank the engine. I had tested this relay on the bench where it worked fine, but it twas dropping out under load.  Thanks for everyones help!
