Hey Guys, had a clients battery in thier sunfire go very low to the point where a boost was required to start the vehicle. I have a gmdacav. bypass module in there that lost its programming after the boost was done, remote still starts the car, but the service engine and the passlock light stay on. I reprogrammed the module with no problem and everthing is back to normal. the question I have though is, do these modules loose thier programming when they loose power, or should they retain thier programming. I was just curious when it comes time to replace a vehicle battery will reprogramming be neccessary every time.

I have heard that some bypass modules will lose programming if they lose power. I have yet to see it myself. I have used Trilogix bypasses this year, and a mixture of Trilogix and DEI in years past all without needing to be reprogrammed.

Usually they don't lose programming, but they may need to be reset. The big problem is that the voltage went low and then the car was boosted. Electronic components don't deal with this too well. They have a bad habit of locking up and need to be reprogrammed. It is much better to charge the battery for a while and then start the vehicle normally.
