hey guys, wondering if anyone here has done a remote start system in a 2005 or newer g35 yet.. more specifically one of the ones where you can leave the transponder in your pocket and get in car and drive away..

in order to get the car to remote start, you'd need to have the transponder burried in the car somewhere correct? well, if this is the case couldn't someone simply walk up to the car and hit the thumb button on the door handle, get in, and start it up/drive away? if so, does anyone know a way around that? i've got an idea, but not sure if it would work..

here's what i came up with..

use both ground when armed and status ouptut (tied together with diodes to isolate from each other) to trigger a relay to disactivate the switch's starter wire and allow it to start by r/s only?

standard relay, hooked up as follows..

85 .. status/g.w.a. inputs

86 .. +12v

30 .. starter side starter wire

87a.. switch side starter wire

87 .. starter output from r/s

this way, when armed (or under r/s) the relay would only allow starter input from the r/s system, rendering the dash switch useless.. you could also take it a step farther and piggyback that status/g.w.a. output to another relay that would kill the ignition output of the switch when the system was armed. that way, if someone managed to get into it and turn the switch while under remote start, the switch would not have ign output..thus causing the car to die when the r/s shut down.

same idea, just wire up a second relay as follows..

85 .. status/g.w.a. output

86 .. +12v

30 .. car side ign wire

87 .. r/s ign output

87a .. switch side ign wire

upon further thought, i think you could use the same method to break the connection to the door's thumb button by using the same trigger method to break the button's output..

draw this out on paper and it should make sense what's going on.. i think it may just work. does it make sense to anyone else? or is all this even necessary?

It's actually a lot easier than that, and you don't need special relays or anything.

You would simply plant the valet key in the car, in an ordinary bypass box, and keep the other keys with you.

The correct name for Infiniti's really cool system is called "Intelligent Key". If you perform a search, you'll find many posts describing the install, not just for the G35, but for the electrically-identical FX35/FX45 and Murano.

Just use a pulse timer to energize the keysense for a few seconds before and during crank. Thats all.

so i take it the valet key just has the standard old transponder in it.. the one that doesn't allow for easy entry / starting? good info then.. that simplifies things quite a bit.

Yeah, the valet key is just a regular key.

The only real security risk with these cars is that if the remote start is already running, it is possible to simply turn the ignition switch on and drive away, even if you don't have a key.

If this worries you, there are a few things you could do:

--Wire the remote start so that it can't operate unless the car's doors are locked.

--Wire the remote start so it'll always lock the car after remote starting.

--Connect the car's domelight wire to the remote starter's hoodpin input, so the remote start will shut down whenever a door is opened.
