Chevrolet 2000 Express Custom Van

I am hoping that someone on this forum has installed an Essex 1601 Keypad door lock/unlock with a viper 560 VX already installed on the vehicle.. I purchased one of these keypads but I am not able to get an installer to install the unit because it requires drilling 8 holes in the drivers door. That is not a problem because I have a skilled person who will do that for me. I am in no way a technician or installer of auto security products but I am forced to do the job myself or eat $179.00. Thank you for any help you can give me.

Thanks for the reply Ween. I have viewed the Keylees.com site (Essex Electronics) and understand how to wire this Keypad with relays but I have a Viper 560VX security system installed and need to interface the Viper to the Essex keypad since the installer set th system up to alarm when the doors are opened other than using the Key Fobs supplied by Viper. The Essex Keypad on the lock/unlock wires are momentary to ground and the Viper has no inputs for an accessory device like the Essex keypad.

The 560XV doesn't have a 'disarm' wire, so unless you can get the signal from the keypad to program in to the 560 you may be out of luck.

One thing you may think about is to wire up relays for the 'arm' and 'disarm' of the keybad. Then, disassemble a programmed DEI remote and hardwire the switch contacts on the circuit board to the relay contacts. It would also be a good idea to make a power supply for the remote so that you arn't changing batteries every year or so.

Thanks for the reply. I would not want to mess around with the professional install of the Viper 560. What I might do is ask the DEI installer to remove the security feature on the back door of the van and I will install the keypad for that door only. This is a custom Van for our disabled son and the dog (lab) locked the doors on the vehicle twice with the keys in the ignition. I have to have another way to get into the vehicle or maybe just put a spare key under the vehicle some where.

Do any of you installers know if I can wire the Essex 1601 keypad door lock and door unlock output wires which are 1/4a momentary to ground when the correct codes are entered to a DEI 1700g door lock and door unlock inputs? I got one from a friend and when I tested the 1700g it has 12volts on all wires. (DOA) Before I but one I would like to know if this will work. Thanks for any help

I understand what you are trying to do, but if the keypad is only gonna be used in emergencies....then just hook it up....in the case above..( the dog locked the car) open with keypad, and then grab the alarm tx and disarm. Correct me if i'm wrong guys.....but i don't think i've seen any aftermarket systems that have a external disarm wire, at least i've never seen one.

I think that was the model number, I hated those alarms.....

Yeah, when you say ol, and audiovox....that means junk.....i hated their old stuff so much....the new stuff rocks.

Does anyone know if the DEI 1700g on the doorlock/unlock wires will accept a momentary to ground signal to activate the door locks on the databus pin #2?
