viper 791vx remote range

You know I always hear this, but in 16 years I have never understood how grounding to a factory bolt could be worse? There is more surface area in those threads than necessary for a sufficient ground. Alot of times the factory grounds the same way. And you have a bolt which will most likely never loosen, opposed to a self tapping screw which has a greater chance of loosening or not being secure in the first place. Who really scrapes the paint away in the kick for an alarm install? I doubt many do.

Not meaning to contradict you Twelvoltz. If you have more insight on this I'm all ears. I like to learn new things and if theres some theory on this I'd love to see it.

the cross braces under the dash are bolted to the chassis sub-structure and over time these connections where the bolts mount can oxidize or worse come loose....   i have metered the cross members on a chev truck with the vehicle off and gotten 15-20 ohms resistence to ground (it should be about 1 ohm!), and with the vehicle running had 150 ohms resistence at the same point... yet going to the metal in the DKP brought it back down to 4-5 ohms running....  a huge voltage differential !!

i always go directly to the metal right in the DKP now to avoid having to troubleshoot a range issue 2 or 3 years later.....
