confusing viper programming

Can someone please help explain to us how you set up a Viper 791XV for programming? We need to set up feature # 2-10 as latched. We open the car door, turn ignition on/off, press and hold the valet button until it chirps twice, and then we press the valet button 10 times and then once more only we hold it in and press the disarm button on the remote. We wait 15 seconds and the alarm chirps and programming turns off. Are we doing it right, does that sound correct? How are we supposed to know if it's set up as latched, or another way to ask the same question is how are we supposed to know if it's latched, latched with ignition, 30 second timed, or second unlock? Also, when it is set up as latched, does the channel 4 indicator on the remote stay on (while it's latched) or will the indicator just flash on/off like when you arm/disarm? Thanks.

after you press and hold it you need to wait until the siren chirps 10 times indicating that it is indeed in menu item 10 then press unlock and it should chirp twice indicating it is in latched mode. --->Richard 2008 Scion xB

Yes it chirped 10 times but what tells us it's in latched or latched with ignition or 30 second timer, etc... We saw nothing that tells us what option it's currently in. Are we supposed to just guess what feature is selected when we press the unlock button?

I hate using the valet button.  Get yourself a bitwriter which cost around 70 bucks and well worth it.  It plugs into the alarm and controls all the alarm fuctions and extra functions that the valet button does not do.  It works on all DEI products and controls their amps.

what I really mean is that if you will work on DEI products more often then it is well worth it.

I agree with you on that. When i was working with Dei, the bitwriter was invaluable. So much easier.

HUH??? That's really weird, our Viper manual clearly says it's 2-10 (see below). There isn't a 2-12. Could you double check?

The Viper 791XV has been out for quite a few years now. I'm gonna guess around 5 years. Over that time they have added more programming options, and more wires. You need to make sure the production date of the manual is the same as the alarm brain.
