i currently have a Python 1400xp (keyless entry with remote start). i would like to upgrade it to the 1600xp (alarm with keyless entry and remote start). I am looking at the diagrams and with the exception of a few trigger wires, everything else looks pretty much identical. Would it be as simple as swapping the brain box and connecting the cables that are not connected?
Thanks in advance for any help..

You would not be able to just plug in the old harnesses, you would need to rewire it. Look at the H1 connector on both systems...there are a couple discrepancies and the first I found was the ground wire is in a different pin location.

Hey thanks for the response, greatly appreciated. I actually have installation guides for both alarms and the grounds is in the same pin for both alarms. H1/8 which is the Black wire for Chasis Ground. There are only a few differences (mostly new cables for the door trigger and trunk trigger) but other than that everything else seems the same.
I guess my question is, since i currently have my 1400xp installed and working with the remote start and all, can i just simply plug in the 1600xp and then route the trigger wires and everything should work right? is there something that maybe i am missing? thanks

I am looking at the manuals for the 1400xp and 1600xp that I just downloaded from DEI's site and the pin outs are different. On the 1600XP there is an empty spot between the ground (black) and Brown (siren +) wires. Not to mention the entire plug appears to be inverted. Do not look at the wire descriptions but look at the 'wiring quick reference' guide..page 57 of the 1600XP and page 42 of the 1400XP.
So, NO you can not just plug it in and hook up the extras. The colors are indeed the same so rewiring a new system should be rather painless and in theory if the plugs were identical then hooking up just the extra inputs would work. However unless you have systems that are different from what DEI lists as being the 1400XP and the 1600XP it will not work.

The Installation guides i have must be outdated then because all the wires pretty much look the same.
Would you happen to have direct links to both Installation guides for 1400xp and 1600xp.
I got the 1400xp installed about 4 days ago but was not aware that it was not an alarm until after it was installed. the 1600 includes the alarm and i would really like to just swap them with minimal amounts of wiring. i do understand that there will be some wiring involved but i hope i could do it without have to touch the relay satalite or anything with the starter or remote start.

The manuals are not available for public download, and DEI has changed directechs to prevent any 'unauthorized' access to their site. I was specifically contacted by DEI and told to stop posting any of their product information on this site, or any other for that matter. I wish I could send it to you but I can not risk losing access to Directechs. I do not agree with DEI's decision to not allow customer access to the manuals but I am not in a position to argue it with them.
The shop that installed your 1400XP should have disclosed that your system was not an alarm (although it has some security features) and as such you should be able to get a swap done and only pay the difference. Keep in mind that DEI does not warranty any products in the Python line that are self installed. And the shop that put the 1400 in will also void any warranty if you alter their installation in any way.
The ribbon cable and XCRS wiring are the same for the 2 systems so you would be able to swap out the ribbon trusting the installer did not bench wire anything into it. As far as the rest of the wiring is concerned the colors are all the same so if you connect it wire to wire you will be fine. The connectors going into the brain are all that is different.

Thank you so much, that is exactly the information i needed. i am aware that it will void my warranty but unfortunately i dont have the money to have it installed. I am not completely dumb when it comes to wiring and soldering things up but since car alarms could be tricky, I just wanted to make sure that i was on the right track.
Now if you dont mind i do have two more question? I am wiring this system into my 08 yaris. Would i need to add any additional relays to the system? Keep in mind the keyless entry and remote start already work the only function i would be adding is the alarm...
Does the satalite relay already come with a starter kill? like if some broke into my car without deactivating my alarm and they try to start it with a key, will the car start? if not would it be difficult to wire a relay for this function?

No you should not need any additional relays as all you are really adding is the shock sensor, door triggers, and siren. You will need some diodes to isolate the door triggers if you use the individual ones. I normally just grab the domelight for the door trigger eliminating the need to isolate them.

You would not need to change this wiring so long as the original installer hooked up the anti-grind/starter kill already. To check this, lock your car with the Viper remote and try to start the car with a key if it starts then try reprogramming the security features to on. If it still starts after locking then you would need to cut the vehicle starter wire and solder the green to the key side of the cut wire and the purple to the starter side of the cut wire.

I rather add the door trigger to the domelight but will that interfere with the dome light supervision wire that is already installed to turn on the domelight when i press the unlock button? do i just connect both cable to the same wire?
I know that my antigrind works because when i am in remote start function, if i turn the key all the way it will not crank the car. does this mean that the relay is setup properly? if it is not then all i need to do is follow your instructions by cutting the starter wire and connecting the cables as you told me? i would not need to add additional relays?
Bro you dont understand the amount of help you are providing me and without you none of this would make sense so thank you so much
