GM Power Windows

Hi guys,

I have a 74 Holden (Aussie) ute (think early 70's Chev El Camino) and am putting power windows in it. I have looked through lots of the site, but can't find the answer to my question.

I have an El Camino power window switch in the console and the window motors are the same Delco units as the US 70 - 80 model F bodies use, I believe.

My problem is that the motors do not use reversed polarity for up and down. They have a separate feed for each function and earth through the door/body.

Being a ute (or pick-up) room is at a premuim too. Is there a way to only use 1 relay per window or do I have to use 2?

Yes, 2 relays per window. If the switch is anything like a 70's El camino, in reality you could wire them direct using no relays. Back then GM 5 wired the switch directly to the motor, but if you want to minimize the power at the switch, it's 2 relays per door...

Thanks Mike, that's what I thought.

I know the switches will handle the current draw, but I like to minimise the amount of "high" power going into and around the cab and wondered if there was an "either/or" relay available that would do the job.

Looks like I'll need to buy a couple more relays and make up an extended mount for them under the dashboard.
