the problem i have is that when i turn on the blower motor / fan the wipers move, and the wipers dont work by using the controls, i think that its a earth problem, checked under the bonnet all ok the ones that  i can see, there are some earth points in the o/s and n/s foot wells but they are ok, does anyone know where the earth points on this car are, regards chris.

It's a Renault! = French!  It's a Migraine (Megane) Don't look for the obvious! First run your earths (grounds) directly to the battery neg. I wouldn't expect too much body conductivity for grounding in a 12 yr. old Ren. Second, make sure your blower fan is also well grounded. Third make sure plugs into both are well pushed home.  Had a  Ren Clio recently where the wipers would only work when you  physically held the plug in. Standard Law of Auto Electrics:- Look for electrical systems failures in French cars after 3 years.

sounds right to me megrain, i had run a seperate earth to wiper motor body and all works ok, but i still would like to find the exact fault, but to find it i might have to remove dash, if i find the fault i will post,  thanks for the help, regards chris.

Don't go opening a can of worms, as I said, bad ground, it was grounding through the adjacent blower motor with which it shares its earth (ground, I tend to use the American expression because, a) This is a US based web site and b) The term really only applies to 3 wire grounded or earthed AC systems. Removing your dash, although very easy, that's where I alarm them, pull tweeter covers and remove 2 x T20 torx screws, the whole thing then pulls out but it's totally irrevelant, wiper and blower motor are in the scuttle section at rear top engine bulkhead.

thanks for the info, i know that the blower and wiper motors are in the scuttle but i could not see any earth points, all is ok if i ground / earth the wiper motor body, which is what i might do, its just that i like to find the exact fault and cure that if possible, thanks once again regards chris.

ps.  sites like this would be crap without people like you!

No reason why not, but if you have 2 speeds, then you should have 4 wires, perm ignition to cancel when you turn the wipers off, speed one, speed two and an earth, probably black. Take that wire to the battery neg. N.B. Intermittent speed and wash/wipe are controlled by a processor in the car at the fuse box and feed out as speed one.

I know it's a stereotype but :- All French cars will have electrical problems after 3 years, Italians one year + parts falling off. M/Benz, gear box and suspenson failure. VW/Audi Engine management + gearbox problems, shared with Ford ref deisel engines.
