hey guys, (this may be in the wrong section, if so please move it)

im new to this board but did find some usefull information during my search, and have a question that hopefully someone will be able to answer.

I have a 2005 GMC Sierrra, Duramax, and i have a Polar start PS-4461TWE already in the truck.  It works great.  I recently purchased an Edge Insight unit.  The edge unit is not working properly in my truck.  I called Edge up and they had me plug the unit into the computer which tech support downloaded the data from the unit to analyse.  the answer that i recieved was that the car starter was sending a signal down the (purple) wire to the ODBII port which was inturupting the signal to the diagnostic unit.

I have the dash of the truck pulled apart, have found the "purple wire" to the ODBII port which a wiring diagram i found on the web says is the "Serial Data Signal"  there are no wires from the starter attached to this (that i can tell)

what i was hoping was that i could put a switch onto the wire sending this signal that would allow me to "break" the wire for the starter while i was driving and use the Edge unit, and then flip the switch back while i wasnt using the unit so i could still use the starter.

My research is showing me that this is quickly becoming not that simple.  does anyone have any suggestions of what i can do so that i can use both of my "toys"

to save you guys some time here are some of the wiring diagrams that i have found.

Use the status output or ground when running via a diode to a SPDT (5 pin or 87a) relay to disable the Edge during remote start until key takeover, see if that works.
Either that or a wire was missed on the original install.

Thanks Howie. I wanna go the other way though, I would like to disable the starter once I have key takeover if possible. The edge unit only has a plug to the odbII port. And oddly seems to "communicate" with the truck more consistently if I start with the starter first.
However it still won't let me run a balance rate test (the main reason I bought the unit) because of communication issues

One more question. Roughly how long could I have the power unplugged from the unit before it loses its brain and I need to reprogram it?

If you're talking about the R/S, forever because it has a non-volatile memory bin the edge because it doesn't seem to do what you want any way.
