AVIC-N1 in Land Rover Discovery

Hi,

First, *n00b* alert.  I have done some very basic installs, but nothing too fancy.  I have just bought a used 1995 Land Rover Discovery.  Love the truck, hate the deck (Sony XR-5620 cassette).  So I have ordered a Pioneer AVIC-N1 and was planning to install it myself.  I have read the installation manual and I have the electrical manual for the truck, but I would love to hear any tips anyone might have.  The factory Land Rover deck is long gone, and I have dug into it, but I think the amps have also been removed.  The current deck is wired to 2 old Pioneer 6x9s in metal boxes on the floor behind the seat, so they're definitley going.  Then I will check out whether the factory speaker wiring is still hooked up to a harness anywhere.  Anyhow, like I said, I'd love to hear tips.

Thanks Marvin, I think my main *shudder* points are making sure I get the right wire for the speed pickup (shouldn't be a problem) and the speaker wires.  You see, the current deck is just attached to speakers that are sitting behind the front seats on the floor with the speaker wire run through the centre console.  Not very pretty at all.  I'm not sure how much of the original wiring is in tact.  I do know that the factory subwoofer that is in the rear door has been removed, and I'm guessing the amplifier with it, though I'm not sure where it was located (haven't checked the book yet).   It's cold here right now (-15 °C), so I'm going make sure I've got a good plan before I go freezing myself in the driveway tearing the dash apart.  I will have to make up my own harness (no nice plugs, just insulated male & female spade connectors or something) since as you said, nobody makes a nice plug I can just splice in.  Thanks for the contact info., I'll be in touch when I have a better idea what I've got myself into.

Thanks!  I re-read it after your post and figured it must be a typo.  Yes, the parking brake switch makes a connection to ground, so to keep it working all the time, I need to make the switch grounded all the time.  I had another thought:  The Discovery has dashboard controls for volume and next.  I wonder if I can substitute those inputs for the Pioneer wired remote and use them to control some of the AVIC-N1's functions.  Also, in the Installation manual, it has an Orange-White lead that is supposed to come from lights.  Is that so that the display dims when the headlights are on?  Must be.  The Land Rover has a lead for that function for the factory stereo, so I think that should work.  Thanks for the help.
