Best  I can do ya is 2004. Maybe it's the same??????

GREEN/ Black    ECM pin 29

The ECM is located below the heater box to the right of the accelerator pedal, behind trim panel. The VSS is in the 2nd row from the top, 4th pin right of center of the plug.

Thanks for the quick response.  Unfortunately it's different in the 05.  Someone said there wasn't one but I find that impossible considering the cruise control and speed sensitive stereo.

Okay.... For those of you that have had a problem with this or are installing a Speed Pulse Generator I have great news!  There is a VSS wire and it is located on the loom for the stereo.  When you are hooking the system up it appears to be the ground (Black).  Test it because there are two.  But I can tell you that one of them works.

Are you sure about this? My navigation system is coming in today and I am going to install it tonight. I was going to leave the VSS disconnected until I can get a hold of a Kenwood Speed Pulse Generator. No turn-by-turn directions but the map/tracking supposedly works OK. However, if there is really a speed wire for the stereo that I can use for VSS, this will save me tons of time and money. I don't have the RF stereo, but I'll see what I can find back there.
Where did you tap into the reverse wire? Did you go all the way back to the lights or is there a spot up front you can tap into?

I used the standard wiring harness for the system (Same thing you get from crutchfield) and it was one of the black wires.  I'm sorry I can't tell you exactly which one but I pronise, the system us useless without it.  Test the wire with the car moving.  I will try at some point to tell you exaclty which one it is.

The reverse wire also needs to be hooked up to make the system functional.  I tapped into the reverse light at the back of the vehicle where I put the nav module.  I unscrewed the left anchor rail and the covered compartment and pulled up the back trim and the trim on the sides (No screws).  The wire is on a harness that runs to the lights Red with a black stripe.

Cool...thanks for the help on the reverse wire. As for the VSS wire, I'll play around and see what I find. I hope the wire is there even if I didn't get the RF stereo. This would be great news...
Where is your nav module installed? I wanted to stick it under a seat, but those vents prevent anything from easily screwing in. Did you also get power from the rear somewhere? The "brain" for my headunit is under the passenger seat, so putting the nav module under the driver's seat would make it a super easy installation (except for the speed/reverse wires).
Thanks again...

The VSS wire should be in yours.  I think the 05 X comes standard with speed sensitive stereo and that's where the wire comes from.  I made all connections to the nav in the front (Except Reverse) and mounted the unit in the little compartment under the false floor.  Running the wires was relatively easy and only took me about 20 minutes.  Once you get the "pan thingy" taken out (5 screws) it's pretty easy to route everything, you'll just need to drill a hole in it to run your wires.

Good luck.

Well, no luck with the VSS wire, I don't think. I hooked it up to a black wire that didn't have a corresponding connection on the new stereo harness. I didn't test it, but the system still won't give me turn by turn directions. It will track me using the satellites, though. It just refreshes a little slowly and won't show me turning until I'm way done with the turn.
Anyway, I didn't hook up the reverse wire yet, and I'm not sure if this is causing problems or not. Could be that the VSS wire doesn't work, or that it really needs the reverse wire hooked up too. Tomorrow I'll try hooking up the reverse wire to see if that helps anything.
What navigation unit are you using? How are you sure that you got a VSS signal?
Anyway, it's almost done...if anything I'll fork down the money for a signal generator and have it installed sometime. For now I'm pretty happy at least knowing where I am, and can go without turn-by-turn for a little while.

I have the Kenwood 4100.

The turn by turn will not work until you get the VSS connected.  I thought I could live with it for a while until it was cloudy and couldn't get satellite signals for 20 minutes or so.  The VSS basically runs the nav until a viable satelilite signal is received.

The Reverse will not help with the turn by turn.  It only keeps orinetation if you have the VSS wire connected.  If you don't have the reverse connected and you back out of a spot, the system thinks you are going the opposite direction and gets hosed until you can get 3-4 satellite signals.

I am sure I got the VSS because it works.  You'll be able to tell.
