remote wire

A friend of mine had his stereo done at a shop and then 3 months later his subwoofer stop working so he took it back to the shop and the tech that did his install didn't work there anymore and the shop wouldn't fix the work the tech done and left him stuck. So we put two heads together and came to the conclusion his rcas had cuts in it so the bare wiring was showing the guage power wire was two different colors and joined together with electrical tape no coupler. The speaker wire that was between the amp and the was dead. The ground was 8 guage and the power wire was 4 guage. The reciever wasn't secured in the dash correctly. And the tech put electrical tape around the connections that went to the amp. But the one thing we couldn't figure out why the tech put a fuse between the amp and recevier. It was a inline fuse, but I'm not trying to bash stereo shops I'm trying to figure out what went wrong so we can fix this. I plugged the amp in my car nothing, fuses were good the sub worked when plugged into another setup and the amp didn't go into protection mode. When we plugged another amp in his jeep we got signal from the wiring that was done by the tech but it was scracthy . I'm assuming it was the bad rcas . Any ideas sorry about the book1993 sdv

We haven't replaced anything yet and I didn't post this to make fun any shops some shops are good some aren't I wasn't there when the install was done the first time so I posting what I saw. The reason I do my my own is is the low end shops have there favorite customers and the ones they get lazy on. They also have the high end shops but the charged a lot so I guess you get what you pay for. We inspected the enitire length of the power wire and electical tape was keeping the two wires together unser the carpet. As for hops I have nothing against them just the lazy techs. So no one knows the reasoning for the inline fuse on the remote wire1993 sdv

Well that's the plan and we just secured the indash radio and I left the inline fuse on the remote wire. So I have a question for you all that have shops. I seen this many times and that's never to ground from the seat belt. Do any of you make that a rule among your shops or is it ok if you can't find anything else. Again I'm not bashing shops we trying to figure out how his amp died and the speaker wire is useless also1993 sdv

Where do you live?  I recommend not frequenting shops who use amateures as installers.Support the12volt.com

San diego don't get me wrong I ran into a few good ones out here and there is the shops that can do good work but if your not someone that can bring your rich friends to give them business consider your car a mobile fire hazard. That why I'm trying to get my hands deep into the car audio workd make a positive name out there I did a couple installs and not to add that I never charged them I vollunteered and did it for free its not for the money its for the a strong interest. So I'm not bashing shops I just don't deal with them I took my car to one shop and they did my alarm no problems and came highly recommended but no cheap;)1993 sdv

If you have a receipt with the work performed on it, you have grounds to hold the shop liable. Because they fired him, doesn't release them from the responsibility of the work. I would call anonymously and ask what the shop's warranty policy is and see what you can do. The other side of the coin, if they did such a bad job, do you want them touching the vehicle again?

True they are still liable but this were I stay some shops are only in it for the quick buck. Me personally no, but if the shop was qualifed to do the work correctly I would agree to that but if they wasn't I wouldn't have let them touch my car at all I'm very picky when it comes to shops.1993 sdv
