Hi,

This is my first time posting so sorry for any spelling or grammar errors. I was looking for alarms and found the clifford avantguard 4 to be the one I wanted. The problem was in my zipcode 97404, there was only 2 authorized installers. 1 The good guys, and I knew I didn't want them touching my car. 2. Custom Audio a small shop that just opened. So I went down there and asked them if they could do it and they said sure no problem. They said they've never done it before but he didn't see a reason why he couldn't. So since they didn't have one I found an authorized dealer online and bought one from him. I but all the accessories I wanted and brought it to him today for the install. He started taking off the panels and downloaded the wiring diagrahm and then started talking to his buddy. They then both came up and said they weren't going to be able to install the alarm for the price they quoted me, which was $200. I was like "So how much". They said if they decided to do the install it would take them a day and a half which would cost $600. I was like what the hell how did that change from everything before. And he made up some stuff about messing with factory wiring. I am very upset now, I have a $700 paperweight. I called around everywhere and no one will install it :(. I live in eugene, Oregon. The car is a 2000 jeep Cherokee with power windows and door locks. Please if anyone knows an installer that can do this I would really appreciate any help.

Thanks, Adam

The vehicle you have needs an adapter because it has multiplexed wiring(computer controlled locks, door trigger, windows, and anything else going into the doors). Without this module they would have to go into all of the doors and it would take a while, don't know about over a day, but this is something an experienced installer should know about. You can buy a module that should be able to operate these functions for 50 bucks, really easy to install, and take it to a shop that has more alarm exp. Is the alarm old (actually clifford) or is it new ( made by dei)?

First of all, thanks a lot for the reply. I really appreciate it. I did not know there was an adapter and obviously these guys wern't very experienced with alarms. Where would I buy this adapter and what is it called? The alarm is made by Clifford I think? How would I find out for sure? It says clifford everywhere around it. Can you reccomend a shop or anything?

Thanks, Adam

You will also need a immobilizer bypass if you are doing remote start, like DEI's 555u or 555c.

I thought I only needed that if I used the transponder key? I do not have the transponder keys. Do I still need this?

Thanks, Adam

When I looked up this module it said "grand cherokee" I have a regular cherokee does that make a difference? or do they both use the multiplexed wiring?

Thanks, Adam

Not if you don't have the transponder key. If your key has a rubber surround and one is black and the other is grey then you probably have an immobilizer.

No when I bought the car I remember them telling me it didn't have the transponder key thing. Both my keys are black. I think that DEI 455j is only for the grand cherokees, or am I wrong?

Thanks, Adam

I must have skimmed that to quickly. That should be a straight forward alarm then. They shouldn't need more then 4-5 hours for that alarm. There isn't much special about the wiring for that vehicle.
