personally i like the W7s, really nice subs. but with the right box, the 2 W6s should be louder. i say "should" because you never really know when you compare to a W7 of any size. i used to run a single 8W7 in a ported box i built myself and that little sucker hit hard. most people that heard it would swear they were listening to at least 1 good 12

the issue is, i'm currently running the 10w7 with a sealed box and the SPL doesn't seem all that impressive, i'm scared to go with a ported box as i've run a 12w6 in a ported box, which is known to be a big mistake. just wondering if i should go with a ported box on my 10w7 or go with two 12w6's

theres nothing wrong with putting a W6 in a ported box as long as its done right. ANY sub that is not used with a box that is built for it runs the risk of sounding like poopy. same goes for a W7, sealed or ported, if it is used in a poorly designed box it will sound horrible. the 8W7 i mentioned i had, at first i had it in a sealed box that i just threw together and it was way too big because i was planning on making it ported, but i got lazy so i ditched the port. it sounded really bad, wasn't loud at all. so then i built a ported box for it and the difference was like night and day. so if it was me in your position, i would try out a ported box built to spec for your W7. and then if you dont like it, try something else, but in the end noone can tell you what will sound better to you

with my prior w6, i used a ported box built to jl specs, and as you would say, it sounded poopy.

manufacturer specs are usually not that good anyway, thats why it pays to try and learn a few things about enclosure design instead of taking everyone's advice at face value because like i said, only you know what sounds good to you

Thats why i still prefer ANL fuses over circuit breakers. If to much amperage is put through an ANL it has no choice but to fail and by doing so it is doing its job.
