the opening might need to be trimmed to fit a double din but it can be done if you are willing to do the work or pay extra at a shop. i could be wrong though, im having trouble imagining what the 03 dash looks like. can you post a picture?

yeah, your opening might need to be trimmed a little bit to fit a double din.

hi,

making brackets for the sides of the head unit will hold it in.  there is a horizontal crossbar/ ledge that you can use to attach the brackets.  and use a back support from a ford dash kit to hold the rear of the headunit in place.

you are going to use the ford thing that bolts to the back of radio and slides into metal track beneath the radio. this will keep it from coming out. its a tight sqeeze. did my excursion 03 last month

you wont need to trim the sides, which is where the radio would lock in to, you would only need to trim the top a little bit. thats if you even need to trim anything at all. it really depends on what unit exactly you get because some units are bigger than others when it comes to a double din openning. just recently i had to fight to get a double din eclipse radio into a nissan titan which normally i have no problem fitting. all im saying is there might be a chance that you might have to trim the opening depending on what unit you get, but in general it is not very hard to fit a double din into your truck with a little work.
